| Comcast Bandwidth Exceeded Notice!!!
Holy crap, I just got a Comcast notice in the mail today. It's a notice about saying how I exceeded the usage of bandwidth in July 2003. I also called the number given in the notice and I asked just what is the bandwidth limitation. Guess what? Comcast told me there was no number to give. The CSR just told me what Comcast does is that they take an average of the area's bandwidth usage from everybody and then compare. Geez, it seems that my usage was above the average.
And the notice also mentions if I would like to obtain a Comcast commercial Internet service. Hahahahaha. It's residential usage. I don't need commercial service. I have nothing running commercial services.
I know that my computer is set to download 80KBps throughout each day - 5 streaming 128kbps radio stations. I guess I better cut back on the radio streams that I listen to.
Well, I don't know if I'm the first to get this or some others have gotten this notice. I did a search in this forum, but came up empty handed. -- === HQH === My website/BEFSR41 Setup Guide:»www.geocities.com/~hqh51/ |

| Probably, but not likely. Just the "people who use more than other's in the area on an average", as put by the CSR. What a load of crap.

| reply to hqh51 Can you picture being pulled over by a cop saying that you were exceeding the "speed limitation."
You ask "just what is that speed limitation and where is it posted?"
Answer..."it's not posted and it's whatever we decide at the moment. However it is reasonable because you were traveling faster than the average."
And just how are averages determined if you don't allow anyone to exceed the average. |

Under "Prohibited Uses And Activities:" quote: (vii) restrict, inhibit, or otherwise interfere with the ability of any other person, regardless of intent, purpose or knowledge, to use or enjoy the Service, including, without limitation, posting or transmitting any information or software which contains a worm, virus, or other harmful feature, or generating levels of traffic sufficient to impede others' ability to send or retrieve information;
Under "Newsgroups:" quote: Comcast permits users of the Service to download a maximum of one gigabyte (1GB) of newsgroup content in any one month, unless users are subject to a Service plan that permits downloading more newsgroup content.
Under "Violation of Acceptable Use Policy:" quote: Comcast does not routinely monitor the activity of Service accounts for violation of this AUP. However, in our efforts to promote good citizenship within the Internet community, we will respond appropriately if we become aware of inappropriate use of our Service. Although Comcast has no obligation to monitor the Service and/or the network, Comcast and its suppliers reserve the right at any time to monitor bandwidth, usage, transmissions, and content from time to time to operate the Service; to identify violations of this Policy; and/or to protect the network, the Service and Comcast users.
So if the AUP is to be believed, either someone ratted you out, or your bandwidth consumption was so outrageously high that it stood out from the crowd and was noticed.
What I truly found disturbing was this little gem, also under "Prohibited Used and Activities:" quote: (ii) post, store, send, transmit, or disseminate any information or material which a reasonable person could deem to be objectionable, offensive, indecent, pornographic, harassing, threatening, embarrassing, distressing, vulgar, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive, or otherwise inappropriate, regardless of whether this material or its dissemination is unlawful;
Under this clause, the image posted earlier in this thread of a steaming pile of crap could be considered a AUP violation.

Yea, it should be unlimited. If i want to download all day and all night i should be able to. They sold it as unlimited and thats what it should be.
