Gotto say here that the e trust v7 promo doesnt have "sammy splash screen" It has a nicer display Logo which can be disabled if you choose. |

| reply to Alwill Response from CA re: the irritating splash screen:
Hello Gail, Due to overwhelming feedback from users who wanted to see that EZ Antivirus was loading and running, we instituted the splash screen as part of the boot process. This splash screen runs off of the VetTray service, which also controls scheduled scan and signature download jobs, so it cannot be disabled.
I do appreciate your suggestion, the ability to disable this splash screen is in the plans for a future release of EZ Antivirus. However, there is no ETA as to when this will be released.

Thanks a bunch! marti also contacted me with this bit of wisdom, now maybe I won't have to worry so much about doing those upgrades - well, except I don't want to look at Sammy either. I don't think I will try the 6.1.7.0. Thanks for the info, both of you -- It takes a disaster to make a woman out of a female Gladiator Security Forum |

Thank you for the post. I will bring this to the attention of the Zone Labs folks. I'm running ZAPlus, so can only believe what is posted on the released version page. (I'm going to send an email to my Zone Labs contact before I go to bed tonight.)

| reply to CalamityJane said by CalamityJane : Alwill....I continue to be impressed with your bravery at trying all the new versions I'm still back here at 6.1.0.24 and feeling that was a bold move around the first of the year (but it works great). The Sammy Splash screen sounds like a horror movie (we all hate him). But seriously - how does one *go back* to a prior version or even up to something not so new but newer than this? I often wondered, never seen anywhere you can do this.
Hi Janie,
It's not so much a matter of being brave as being cautious because I make sure I have an escape route in case of trouble .Whenever I install new builds/versions, I keep the install.exe files so that in the event of problems with later updates/upgrades, I can go back to an earlier stable platform. This is what I did when I got sick of Sammy and re-installed 6.1.4.0. |

| reply to Alwill said by Alwill : Have only now come across this thread and just in case you may re-visit Fire_Emblem, EZ 6.1.5.8 had bugs that were acknowledged by Computer Associates and which led to it releasing a later update, the current version 6.1.7.0.
I have tried 6.1.7.0 and found it performed without a hitch; however, it has an annoying 'Sammy' splash screen which pops up on each and every boot/reboot. I tried every which way to get rid of it but without success and I later learned that CA had told another user who complained that it could not be removed.

| reply to Nam Vet NamVet, if I were you, I wouldn't be so quick to blame the AV. In my many years as a Windows kernel programmer, I've had to "fix" my product that would crash due to poor implementations in other product's drivers. It is not uncommon for one product to expose a long standing bug in another more popular product... Oh the world of IRP stacks, and IRP cancel routines is dark and murky. If you are prepared to put up with the splash screen you might consider installing 6.1.7.0; otherwise, if you are able, do what I did and go back to 6.1.4.0 which was a good stable version. |
