| best Comcast franchise in the US?
According to a press release issued this week, MCMD is getting a new General Manager, Craig Snedeker. The release says: quote: His talents and influence were recognized when Comcasts corporate leadership awarded the Chesapeake Bay Group with its "Circle of Success" award naming it the best Comcast cable system in the country.
Can anyone confirm that franchise is notably superior? I wonder how they define "best"? I had no idea that Comcast has any kind of ranking of franchises. I wonder why Philly wasn't the best? Where does MCMD rank? Could this be a move by Comcast to improve our franchise?
One more thing: Snedeker replaces Sue Reinhold, who is moving to Florida to serve as regional vice president of operations for Comcast's South Florida properties. |

| I started a topic earlier today about Sue: Look Out South Florida: Here Comes Sue!
But I hadn't yet done any research on Craig (except to look at his pic, so I can ID him)
What do you think carries the most weight when evaluating a franchise? • Count of franchise violation fines. • Dollar amount of franchise violation fines. • Count of complaints. • Dollar amount awarded to complainants. • Count of safety code violations. • Dollar amount of safety code violation fines. |

of course - it is a public company after all. We didn't actually expect them to have our needs as priority number 1 did we? -- War has no winners, only losers |

| I think subscriber satisfaction, and franchise compliance belong somewhere, even if they're low, on the priority list.
And I'd like to see a definition of "best franchise" that includes something other than profit.

| reply to DonLibes Well I guess someone is going to get a bonus this year. Gj Craig, I don't recall being able to vote for my franchise Hopefully he got the award from low customer complaints and customer satisfaction and not profit |

| reply to DonLibes Actually with all said and done, our ratings of Comcast for my town isn't all that bad. I'm still mad at Comcast, but overall, people responded more favorable than negatively. When it comes to comments, however, the negative outweighs the positive. -- Comcast survey results:»mywebpages.comcast.net/mbernste/···htmWatch Comcast Executives Get Grilled:»mywebpages.comcast.net/mbernste/···ing.html |

| reply to DonLibes I don't think my system would win, once the local information channel on my cable system displayed a powerpoint application error screen for over a month
Not sure whose job it was to check that, guess he was on vacation. |

| I don't think I've ever seen a franchise agreement that required the cable company to provide PEG content (though cable companies are sometimes required to provide facilities). In any case, Comcast isn't likely responsible for content on your PEGs.

| The agreement for Comcast looks up-to-date, File Quit . It was signed in '96, and is good for 12 years. You got PEG facilities, funding for PEGs ($1m/year), and a nice INET out of the deal (among other things). |

I remember in the early days of our PA channels, I would see for several days a "guru mediation error." If I didn't see that, then I saw the Amiga Workbench OS desktop being broadcast. On one or few occasions it was like watching a web cam. You could actually see what the user was doing (mouse clicks and all). Poor user probably didn't even realize that they were broadcasting their desktop to two towns. This was before the days of the Internet, so it wasn't like they were going to web sites that they shouldn't be going to. -- Comcast survey results:»mywebpages.comcast.net/mbernste/···htmWatch Comcast Executives Get Grilled:»mywebpages.comcast.net/mbernste/···ing.html |

| In an earlier era of CATV, local access consisted of a camera panning back and forth between a clock, a thermometer, and a barometer. Whether it be urban legend or fact, the story goes that some prankster placed a Playboy centerfold in front of the camera. I believe that two weeks passed before anyone complained... |
