My standard of "obsolete" is actually when the card is no longer the fastest. I bought the card expecting it to be obsolete within 2 months anyways, so I'm already saving up for the next generation of cards(probably will buy one this winter).
That said, obsolete does not necessarily mean slow. I'm getting nice frame rates...
