Looks like Q329170 will be part of SP4. That one causes shutdown problems for 3 of 4 workstations. I'll pass for now.
I wondered about that, good catch.
FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION. It comes bundled with the software.

I'll install it on my VMWare vm tonite, and I'll report back if there are any issues/errors.

How many of these fixes or bugs will need applied to Win XP ?? Most, if not all ??

Dunno how much of networking code in XP that MS rewrote / copied.
My guess: A lot !!

I just finished slipstreaming SP4 into a Win2000 CD. I'll be trying it out once I need a format.

I think the first thing I would want to see is a list of bugfixes and security holes fixed by SP4 that are not in SP3, and without having to do the elimination myself. hehe

So I suppose when MS releases that info, I'll look over it. I sure do hope it's nice and stable, though, because I'll have a new 2K Server installation coming soon that would benefit from just being able to get SP4...

Should SP4 delete all folders like "$NtUninstallQ815021$" from C:\WINNT?
I see all of them in place

Nope, you'll have to do that in your own good time

A Service Pack will not delete individual updates.

I wonder if SP4 has an updated version of Spoolsv.exe? Any version later then or equal to this information should fix the Q329170 problem.
Date Time Version Size File name
------------------------------------------------------
28-Jan-2003 13:34 5.0.2195.6659 45,840 Spoolsv.exe

»support.microsoft.com/default.as···s;814770

If anyone who has applied this SP could check this file. it would be appreciated.

I have just installed SP4 and spoolsv.exe is version number 5.0.2195.6659 (as above) but is shown as being created on May 2, 2003. What is different is the file size which is 45,328 bytes.

Maybe it's just me...but I feel like SP4 just made my box run faster.

I like!

Thanks: That's odd the version number never changed, but I think it would be reasonable to assume the shutdown problem is addressed in the Service Pack.

In addition, it seems that my programs are less memory hoggers, and my IE loads pages quite faster!

Oooohhh...I'm tres happy!

Gee Arden625, you're pushing me into reformatting and installing Win2000, even though I am rather comfortable with Win98 right now.

Hehehehe...I don't want to influence you even more into doing that, but Win2K > Win98. I'm just pretty happy with this SP.

Win2K > Win98
Yes of course, in fact Win2k > all. I just installed Win98 to troubleshoot some crashes I was experiencing with newer games. Now that I figured it out, I can go back to my favorite operating system.
