Got home from work last night and kicked my friend off my computer for about 30 seconds when I saw the windows update icon in my system tray. It had 2 critical updates listed which I installed. I don't know the numbers but they both said they were security updates. After they were done I did not reboot. I run a server so I only reboot when 100% necessary and in the middle of the night. Anyhow, haven't noticed any issues so far. Haven't tried any of my Norton products either. Also didn't run the full Windows update to check for normal updates listed.

I had problems to put it politely with the original 811493 and had to remove.

Smooth sailing with the new version.

I just installed 811493 and 815021. No problems with the install, but now I cannot see one of my hard drives. My OS is XP Pro with SP1. I had 3 hard drives; 2 13GB and 1 80GB. I can not longer see the 80GB. Still trying to trouble shoot this.

I had problems with the previous version of 811493.

Reinstalled the new version as well as the 815021 (separately) patch and I can report smooth sailing. No noticeable slowdowns.

How can I tell which version I need 32-bit or 64-bit?

Same here. That system seems to be working just fine - but it has NO Symantec apps on it.

I installed 811114, 811493 and 815021 this morning on my WinXP Pro laptop and desktop. Everything works just fine (so far) for me. I'm running NAV 2003.

Ditto here, no Symantec anything. Running fine with NOD32, TDS-3, and SPFpro on Win XP Home.

Very few users are running 64 bit. If you purchase XP off a store shelf or if it came pre-installed on a new machine, then you're running the 32 bit version.

FWIW, I installed both updates last night (one at a time, 811493 first) and have experienced no problems at all. I do run NAV2003.

I uninstalled both updates and my HD reappeared. I don't know which one caused the problem, but I will not be installing them again.

You might try to install one patch at a time.

Installed both patches, on one XP laptop and on my XP desktop. So far so good.

I saw your question earlier when I posted, but I was on a Win2K machine at the time and couldn't look to see if there were clues on the machine. I wanted to say almost exactly the same thing that MSeng See Profile did - I would imagine that if you've purchased the 64-bit version you'd pretty well know it - and you'd probably have one seriously kick-a$$ machine to run it on! If you'll use Start/Control Panel then hit Help/About Windows in that menu you should see a display something like what I've put up here - that's what my 32-bit version of XP Pro displays.

I will give it a try tomorrow. Will only do one at a time this time around. Probably starting with 811493.

Thanks

Ok, installed each one, one at-a-time, and so far, no problems at all.

My surfing speed is a bit faster (although I wouldn't believe it yet), and my programs on my HD load just as fast as prior to patches.

I'd say these are good-to-go for those of you who are still on the fence.

No probs here.

I have installed the revised patch and the new one both at the same time from windows update. On windows xp sp1. So far it seems to have sped up the computer about 5-8% worth of performance for me. Its also a internet speed increase for me. Also I am running nav 2002 and that seems to be ok as well. I did system restore before installing the patch and recommend that for everyone as results with the patches will vary but as I said its good for me.

I installed the first (go-slow) patch, but on my system it only slowed it down during Launch of IE or Outlook, maybe 1 to 1.5 sec...

This new patch DOES improve the launching speed, compared to where it was before patch....

Running NAV 2002 here. No increase in speeds that tests I just tried indicate...
