Here's a screen shot of the messenger window. No, it's not me. This is just a screen capture from their website.

Did you end up downloading? Working very well here. Only problem was that it didn't like our router too much. Had to take it offline while we test.

It works great on both machines, haven't found one problem with it yet and I think I like it better!

Thanks for the scoop on it and I'll let you know if anything happens!

Dumb question, but how come this download is not sourced at Microsoft? It may LOOK like Messenger, it may ACT like messenger, but where can one be sure that it was made by Microsoft?? (not that it's coming from MS makes it less insecure but at least one can verify the source prior to download.

They are working on the next release of MSN Plus that will be compatable with MSN Messanger 6. Here are some of the features that will be available.
If you decide to try the current version with MSN 5, DO NOT accept the additional software. It will install spyware as well as some adult links.

Now, here is the info from »msgplus.net/ :

Logging
Messenger Plus! 2 (or MP2) adds some wonderful little features. One of my favorites of which is the option for automatic logging of messages. I know I have conversations containing useful information, or things that are just plain funny. I'd be willing to bet that others could get similar use out of it.

There is also an event log, so you can see when your friends login, logout, and change their status.

Modify the Interface
You can turn off the ad banner in the contact list or control the transparency of your chat windows.

Custom Away Messages
Another of the useful and fun features is the ability to set several different custom away messages, which allows for either serious messages to describe your reason for absence, or a humorous blurb to give the same information along with entertaining. You can also insert a code that counts down and tells them how long until you'll be back.

Create Predefined Messages
MP2 also increases the amount of text that can be sent in one message, and you can set it to help through prompts when using emotes. You can create and store predefined messages. Use it for favorite quotes, helps, or just talking smack with your friends.

Notification Sounds
Messenger already can be configured to play a sound when a contact comes online, but Messenger Plus! lets you take that even further, assigning custom sounds to contacts.

Contact Manager
If you've used MSN Messenger for very long, you've probably got a long list of contacts. I've got people that I don't even remember anymore, but MP2 makes it easy to clean up my contact list with it's contact manager. This tool shows your entire contact list, with their last login date and the date of your last chat. I had some people who hadn't logged on in over 60 days. A good indication that I can purge them from my list.

Message Formatting
Now you can mix text formatting (bold, italics, and colors) in your instant messages. MP2 also supports keyboard formatting shortcuts like CTRL-B and CTRL-I.

Controlling Preferences
Messenger Plus! has clean, easy-to-navigate interface for setting your preferences. It gives you very fine control over all of the options.

Have Trillian Pro. Doesn't do what is promised on the website (webcam does not work between Yahoo and Trillian. They have had 8 months to fix but have yet to do so. File transfers don't work) and no audio (audio not supported). Promised frequent updates are non existent (over 8 months with no updates) and when asked about this on their forum one gets nothing but rude replies from the membership. Granted, the mods do what they can. But people that have nothing to do with CS do nothing but reply with flames. Developers don't keep their paying customers up to date on any progress of the new version other than a blurb of what is to come "soon" in the member forum (can't get into that here as it is something mentioned in their pay only area). On this news, they have promised things before that have fallen through. Will have to see what the next version has to offer but for now I'll stick with MSN for voice/video and ICQ for offline messaging. Plus it's FREE!

Hmmm... Never had any of those problems... My file xfers have always worked... Webcam works but is a little slow... Are you behind a router or proxy?

Trillian is aware of the problems. The webcam is not compatible with SuperCam from Yahoo. If you try to connect, the person on Yahoo will only get a black screen. The webcam on MSN is TV quality. Frame rate is the fastest that I have seen. Yahoo Supercam runs around 15 fps and this looks even faster. MSN has really outdone themselves with this release. And it's only a beta. Really makes me wonder what they have in store for the finished program.
File transfers with Trillian are very slow and sometimes abort. They are aware of these issues as well. Their reply is that they should be fixed in the next version. My beef is that it's been 8 months and still no fixes. Unless they come up with something that is earth shattering, I must admit that I doubt I will be renewing my subscription and stick with MSN Messenger 6.

the only problem i've had so far is that it logs me out occasionally. Happens when i'm not using the pc so it's not that big of a deal but, it shouldn't do that with an always on connection.

I too get booted from time to time. Possibly due to them working on their network.
BTW, have any of you tried the games? Cool stuff! Very impressed. Here's the link for the patch to enable games in MSN 6:

»msn6.shorturl.com/

Another great feature is file sharing. With this feature, you can select files such as SETI@Home to share with everyone on your contact list. They could then start a file sharing session and download files that you have specified as wanting to share.
The more I use this program, the more I have gotten to like it.
