|  question about downloading and uploading
i use p2p software from time to time to download stuff.i download maybe 200-300mb a month and upload maybe 100 mb.does insight have a monthly limit on upload and download usage?if so is what i do monthly bad enough to get my service cut off for over using my connection.thanks for the help |

AFAIK, atleast in northern kentucky, Insight is NOT setting monthly limits as of this post. I use kazaa lite, and leave my machine connected to mIRC 24 hours a day.  For the second question, I think that info only shows up the first time you post in a topic.

Your signature will show up only if your post is at least three lines long, or some other minimum length. You can make some test posts in the /dev/null forum - »/dev/null - to see how that would work.

Only monthly limits I've ever seen discussed have been in relation to news groups. »Insight BB Forum FAQ »Are there restrictions for InsightBB newsgroups?
And yes I'm blowing my own horn again but a lot of this stuff is covered in my bookmarks for Insight and in the FAQ on this site.
Do keep in mind I'm sure there are unofficial limits. And if your at those limits on a regular basis you may in fact get flagged for investigation etc. I think in the time I've been in this forum I've seen maybe 1 user post that they had received a warning from Insight. I know it's been awhile since I've read that post - so I couldn't direct anyone to it - yes I forgot to bookmark it.
I would say currently Insight is one of the few ISP that are fairly liberal with there policy towards usage. I think there more worried about upload usage than download honestly. Let's hope with the new upgrades they don't decided to become a little more strict with there usage policy. I have reservations about this type of thing for many reasons.
There have many months where I've done a good amount of uploading and downloading. Especially downloading and I've never been called to task for it knock on wood. So from my usage ( which is fairly heavy at times ) I'd say you'd have to try very hard to raise red flags from Insight. This is of course just my experience and opinion. User experience may vary.

| Well that download result isn't pretty that's for sure. The 0 on the upload does happen at times. I thought I'd seen an explanation as to why in the past. But can't find it at the moment. There may just be something wrong with the test or the test server might just be congested. Always try MULTIPLE test - especially when you see results out of the normal. But seeing 601 on a 3000/128 connection is something you don't want to see consistently on any speed test.
It would probably be best to start another thread on this - so others can see the question. But there is nothing wrong with hijacking your own thread. You started the thread you can change the direction of it in midstream. There is nothing wrong with that.
Since I can't edit my previous post now - wish that was 48 hours instead of 24.

Bandwidth limits from Insight if you ask me would be an unfair policy since it is not stated anywhere when you are going through the ordering/installation process.
Now those satellie companies scream "F.A.P" on their web sites, so I at least the consumer is warned on bandwidth limitations.

Didn't hit 3000/128 but close enough for me. Now if I was getting 600/0 I would be throwing fits!..hah |

As for the 2800kpbs - I've not seen a speed test go above that since DOCSIS 1.1 was announced and started being put in place. I'd previously averaged right at my cap of 3000 or above - at almost all times of day.

| Dropped about 200 to 300kpbs - yes. Not anything to get to uptight about. But when your used to getting right at or above your cap pretty much 24/7 it is sort of a pain. Not that it's going to make that big of difference in my downloads. It's just the principal of it.

2003-05-16 08:31:25 Speed test (ec) 2774/389 kbps
2003-05-16 08:30:34 Speed test (la) 2823/360 kbps
2003-05-13 14:51:03 Speed test (ec) 3115/359 kbps
You can see that after the 16th which is when the 1.1 upgrade was supposed to start my speeds went down a bit. If there getting strict about the cap why is it I see users getting 3200 to 3900kpbs in some areas. I'd like some of that considering it's almost 1000kpbs more. I just noticed Insight has dropped to #13 on this list »/archive they used to rate much higher.
I'm doing a rather large download at the moment but did a speed test any way. This is why you shouldn't use your connection while doing a test ( LOL ):D

| i done a speed test last week while downloading a 700mb file and got results similar to that.maybe the strict cap is only were the 1.1 upgrade has been put in to place.i dont think he was suppose to leak info about packages coming soon.well as to my uploading downloading question he told me they dont really watch it that closely.i have downloaded about 12 gb in the last few days and havent seen a notice yet.

Well if they tech just stated new packages are on the way. But didn't give any details as to what packages might be offered - then they didn't really leak anything. I've yet to see or be given any information in regards to new packages. Hopefully that info will drop in my lap soon.
As for the speeds with the router in the mix. It's most likely a router/setup issue not the modem causing the problem.
