| New Modem W/ Adelphia
Howdy,
I have a COM21 and want to graduate to a beter, stronger faster modem (plus I will own and not rent).
The question is: I probably can't just plug it in can I? Will Adelphia have to do something? If so, how long does it take? -- Air goes in and out. Blood goes 'round and 'round. Any deviation to this is considered a bad thing. |

| Adelphia will need the MAC ID of the new modem for it to work on the system. Provided you can get it done over the phone, it won't take but about 5 minutes for the modem to be provisioned. You may, however, have to take it down to the local office when you turn in your old modem and let them take the MAC ID there for provisioning. Either way, it shouldn't take that long. -- Having children is like being pecked to death by a duck. |

| well i just bought a modem about 4 days ago and this is what i had to do, i called them up and told them that i just bought a modem and they check the servers out in your area to see if you have to take your modem back and then they will provision it or they can provision it over the phone while you still have the old one. Since my area allows them to provision and me keep the old one , they provisioned it and said it could take 3 to 24 hours to get it up and working, it took 25 hours. while it is getting changed over they let you use the current modem you have. |

| I would think that either the MAC ID wasn't input properly to begin with, or that Kentucky has some wacky system for provisioning modems. There are times that it's possible that the registering of a modem may take a while, but it really should never take over 12 hours. -- Having children is like being pecked to death by a duck. |

| reply to heliox I called Adelphia on Thursday to get my new modem provisioned. It is now Monday and they STILL haven't done it. They say they are very busy.
Apparently the guy on Thursday put it into the system wrong. They corrected that Friday, and told me it would be done 'soon'. Saturday they apologized and said it could be up to 48 hours. |

| It is probably best for anyone with a new modem to call in to the Tech Support almost immediately after hooking it up if it doesn't lock on. Just be sure to have the Cable Modem Mac ID and request a Trouble Ticket number at the end of the call. Findings have been such that possibly a cable tech will be needed before the provisioning can be completed as well. FYI...some cable modems may not register on the servers until the signal is set and that can be determined at the time of call.
Also, it may be best to call in through the week and not on weekends. Some businesses only provide weekends off to departments other than Tech support. ) |

| reply to heliox I turned my leased modem in,went and purchased my own modem called the Mac address in to my local office and called the national tech support number and he provisioned the modem while i was on the phone. He then ran some test to make sure everything was ok and that was all there was to it.

| reply to heliox The biggest problem with provisioning is..
"What type of server am I connecting with for my boot or tftp process?".
If its a CNR server, it can be done on the phone. If its a hes1 setup.. it has to go thru a provisioning process.
Almost all the new servers and the rebuilds/buildouts are being done in the CNR fashion.
Before buying a modem, I would suggest doing an nslookup on your dhcp servers ip address and see what it tells you..
Examples: --->
Non-authoritative answer: Name: cnr1.atlsfl.adelphia.net Address: 68.66.159.234
[CNR/DHCP server for Atlantis Florida..]
Non-authoritative answer: Name: hes1.bur.adelphia.net Address: 24.48.243.201
[HES1 for Burlington VT.]
Non-authoritative answer: Name: cnr1.bur.adelphia.net Address: 68.168.96.168
[CNR Server for Burlington.. ( Hmm.. 2 servers.. intresting..... ]
Name: hes1.yumaaz.adelphia.net Address: 24.51.240.34
[Hes1 Server for Yuma Arizona.]
------>
Both servers do the same job ( from the users perspective ) but the way in which things are provisioned are a bit different. The CNR servers are directly provisioned on. When someone calls in with a modem to be provisioned , the Tier2 ( or higher ) individual can log directly into the server and provision the modem. With the Hes1 servers, an application is used. Depending on the replication of the app, it can take a while for the provisioning file/info to hit the respected server, update its list of authorized mac-id's and allow your modem to be permitted for tftp.
Hope that explained it a bit.
Sincerely, Jax |

| reply to ergibbs nah the reason they provision the way they do is so nobody can keep their modem and have 2 modems for the 15 days they give you to return the modem or they give u a 250 dollar fee until you return it. it doesnt seem to wacky to me, its just that your area is old school. |

| As long as the billing records are updated showing that the lease modem has been returned and the MAC of the new modem is listed, you should have no problem getting provisioning taken care of in a timely fashion. So...if you are currently leasing a modem from Adelphia, return it to the local office and take along the MAC ID of your new owned modem and request them to update your account in the billing system. Thus you will not be charged for 2 modems and the records will show the new one. > |

TheQueenB Premium join:2003-05-04 Little Genesee, NY | FYI...the billing account information can be verified with all levels of technical support. As long as the new MAC ID is there, the rep can get underway with the provisioning. |

| reply to heliox Has anyone tryed to get the new SB5100 provisioned? I been trying for a few weeks now and they will not do it. Local office cancled two of my service calls with out calling me so I waited all day for them to come both times ect. They keep telling me the modem isn't hitting the server. I believe it is cause it locks on both the upload and download channle. all nights besides the online are on. Anyone else have a problem with the SB5100? |

I was actually waiting to see if an adelphia user has one up and running. They are very inexpensive$60-$70. Let us know how it goes. -- Air goes in and out. Blood goes 'round and 'round. Any deviation to this is considered a bad thing. |

| I just sign up with Adelphia a couple of days ago. I called them from Bestbuy after picking up the SB5100. I told the rep that it was the motorola SB5100 and gave them the MAC address as well.
I'll probably know on June 7th when the installation guy come out and install the line for me. |

I know of a few that haven't had any problems yet with their 5100 on the adelphia network. -- 0100101001100001011000100110001001110101 |

| reply to heliox Stee and others-
I am also on the clvdoh.adelphia.net server and have also had provisioning issues. I got the same issue with the modem not hitting the server. My current modem works just fine so it is not a signal issue.
They sent a tech out. He said that the service ticket said that I was having trouble with my modem. I pull out the sb5100 and he kinda chuckled and said " I haven't been able to get that modem to work yet. It is something with the motorola files."
I am confused as to why I get a different story everytime I talk to someone. Some techs tell me no problem with the modem, others say it won't work.
I just hope they get the issue fixed soon!!
Any suggestions from the techs? |

See this post: »moto sb5100 support?
Its a CMTS problem, not a modem or config file problem. CMTSs are being updated by Adelphia with new software from their makers as fast as time and existing scheduled network upgrades allow.
The CMTS maker's had to come up with an update to work around a Motorola 5100 issue then ship it to Adelphia after the problem was identified. At least I think so, since the Terayon 715's seem to work fine and they are also DOCSIS 2.0 compatible. The problem is particular to Motorola 5100s and many CMTSs.
Other Cable providers have run into the same issue with the Motorola 5100s, see Charter's forum for examples. -- Adelphia SoCal Page, BBR Tools Page. BBR FAQs on: Power Link, Cable Modems and Wiring, Cable Users.
