| reply to jrsmooth Re: Have you get 1.5/128 yet?
I knew it was too good to be true. As of early this morning, I did have speeds of 1512. However, from about noon until now, I've been hard pressed to even hit 640, often getting speeds as low as 240!!! Ouch!!!
So, I finally decided to call up Verizon. After waiting for 45 minutes, the support person tells me that, "Oh, I'm showing your provision is still "in progress", and your account still shows the 640 speed.
640, I've had 768 for the longest time, and had a constant speed of 733-735 during all hours, peak and off-peak.
She said they could be "testing" it. Testing it???? Newsflash, it worked... before you went and did something around noon time!!
Anyway, this really sucks, as I can't play any Xbox Live games (especially Wolfenstein) as my connection is way too slow for more than say 4 people in any game.
Here I am, thinking how nice and neat the upgrade was. Wake up to 1.5. That was great. Now I'll be going to be with 250 Kbps, not great. At times, I think my upstream was faster than down!!! Not good.

| reply to jrsmooth A little bit of a rough start (DSL was down for 3 days) while they worked on upgrading my service to 1.5.
But hey, I used to suppport networks and I know how tough it is to get the job done with fewer people. Although I think Verizon can improve their way of communication somewhat, I really appreciate Verizon tech people working to get my service up and running (and no, I don't work for Verizon!).
Anyway, there were some issues related to RT and DSLAM port which prevented me from surfing the 'Net.
I got upgraded from 733/98 to 1551/194!

| reply to jrsmooth Mine started today...tests showing 1503/136. It's late, when I ordered on 6-9, they promised to reprovision within 4 business days, which was 4 business days ago.
Anyway, much nicer than 736/136 previously. Parkville, MD -- Think or you may be eliminated...at the very least assimilated. |

You can get it corrected with a little patience. Call tech support, don't mention being upgraded. Tell them your speeds went through the ground at around noon time and ask to speak to TIER-2. Ask to open a trouble ticket and write down the issue #.
If you get a tier-2 tech, be polite but push to speak with networking. With some luck he'll have you on a three way call with a VADI tech in no time.
Let the VADI tech check everything and run a speed test when done. Don't let the dude off the phone before you're satisfied.
If all else fails, call Chronic Troubles.
Testing it.. heh that's a new one. I've been testing DSL for some 5 years now

See folks, I'm not crazy!
You've got....plenty of speed (and less bills!)
* Thank you! I was beginning to think everyone else was getting 1000-1300kbps according to the last few threads... *
I hit 1529 last evening on a Java based test. Tweaking can't fix line faults or loop problems unfortunately... And that's why I suggest people get acquainted with their "normal" DSL turn up stats using the Westell Browser when speeds aren't what one would expect.

An additional call to billing to verify that your rate is lowred to 34.95 may be helpful but you can check your latest bill online. Mine are some 32 dollars now with Veriations, not quite 29.95 but close enough.
If your speed upgrade doesn't happen, call back, get the person's name and be sure to get your order# to refer back to it if it takes a while.
Whether it is true, some people get upgraded within days, others take a month of waiting and calling, but eventually it gets done. Just keep at it and don't give up/loose patience (read this thread and some of the experiences.)
FWIW June 21st is a Saturday.. I doubt techs will be upgrading people on the weekend, but anything is possible.

| reply to jrsmooth I ordered the 1.5Mbit upgrade on this last Thursday (June 19th) and it was implemented today (Sunday June 22). My only question now is what is a good Receive Window range for this package because on my speed tests I am only getting speeds at around 727/137. -- "How about a round of Calvin Ball Hobbes?" |

| reply to jrsmooth Im in the nyc brooklyn area, It seems everyone is happy and has had an easy time getting the 1.5 megabits. why only i have such troubles with it? i called 6/13 they told me it would be on in 3-5 days. Waited, then nothing. Called again and they told me it would be on 6/22. Still nothing, called again today 6/23 and they told me that the order has been set, in the system, and i should be already recieving the upgradde speeds, but the other system shows no transacion. They filled out a trouble ticket for me, and are doing a test. Now i gotta waite some more of them to call back with the results, damm i was so excited to see 1.5 megabits. But i guess its just my luck :-( |

| I've been upgraded after just 4 days
I called on 6/23/03 for the 1.5Mbps upgrade and I just checked my speed today. Speed test shows up as 1333/140 so I've been upgraded!!
The guy told me to wait until the 30th but I got it today so I'm very happy. I just hope they don't mess up my bill when it comes next month (I've heard stories of people being billed twice). |

| reply to jrsmooth I just switched back to Verizon after 2 years with ATTBI\Comcast. It was the speed upgrades and cheaper price that brought me back. Connection speeds are as advertised here with speed tests showing 1497 to 1507 up and a consistent 140 down. For the savings in $$ I can do with the slight speed decrease. |

| reply to jrsmooth well, I'm glad to hear it is working for somebody. I was patiently waiting for it to happen automagically as was initially rumored, and as happened when they upgraded the exBA territories from 640 to 768 several years ago. Then I heard in the newsgroup that it wasn't going to be automagic after all, you have to call. So I did, on 6/23. I was told it would be 5 business days starting with the following day, Tues., and that it might be done at the eleventh hour of the last day, so don't look for it until Tues. 7/1. Well, Tues. the 1st showed no change. I called Wed. 7/2 and the rep told me she there was a log of the 6/23 conversation in my account record, but the order somehow was never entered - despite my having a confirmation number. She offered to put another order through, but it would be just another 5 day standard order. Of course, with the holiday weekend, that will be almost 10 calendar days - in addition to the 9 calendar days already gone by. Inasmuch as the actual work can be performed in minutes, it is purely a scheduling issue. She offered to let me speak to a supervisor about improving the priority for correcting their mistake, but she was unable to actually connect me to said supervisor. After several bounces on and off hold, she transferred me into the supervisor's voicemail, with an assurance that the supervisor WOULD call me back. That hasn't happened yet either.
When it works, it's great; but dropping the ball like that sure pisses off the customers...
