| moto sb5100 support?
This question was asked under another topic today but I thought I'd start a thread to make it easier to find.
Will the Motoroloa SB5100 DOCSIS 2.0 modem be supported anytime soon or is it supported already (albeit unofficially)? The supported modems page doesn't list this product as of today.
In other words, if someone buys this modem for use with Adelphia, will there be a problem or any other difficulty getting it provisioned? |

Support is being worked on.
Some issues have been found with some CMTSs not allowing the modems to come online properly. The affected CMTSs have been identified and most have been fixed or are scheduled to be fixed shortly. -- Adelphia SoCal, Cable modem manual (PDF), CATV Broadband Training Online |

| reply to ieee1394 ... As Tac stated, some areas have the files ( depending on what cmts's are used for that system ) and others don't.
DOCSIS 2.0 is years away. I can't think of anyone that even makes a cmts thats 2.0 compliant.
The best thing to do would be to purchase a 4100 or 4200 knowing it would be up and working within minutes of provisioning.
Sincerely, Jax |

| Here's the full list from CableLabs (of DOCSIS 2.0 cert stuff). Your right about that Terayon CMTS being the only one for now. [text was edited by author 2003-05-01 14:48:41] |

| reply to ieee1394 As machpost said, it seems that BestBuy is now stocking this unit instead of the sb4100. I won't be on Adelphia until the start of June so I'm not in a hurry to buy a modem right now. It's more of a question of what will be available in the marketplace over the next 30 days and then not buying something with an assumption that it will work just because the other Motorola's (sb4100, sb4200) are supported. Does that make sense?
I also want to make sure that I get a modem that works well with Adelphia's infrastructure (it seems that DOCSIS compliance doesn't necessarily mean instant compatibility between vendors). I've heard good things about the sb5100 in the cable forum here. I had been considering the Linksys cable modem but their model seems to get slammed a lot. And finally, I don't want to get a modem that has the upload speed bug (like the sb4100).
Good to see Adelphia is aware of the sb5100 and is working on getting it to work.

| What infrastructure is Adelphia using anyway? DOCSIS 1.0 1.1 or 2.0?
I thought the newer DOCSIS 2.0 cable modems like Motorola SB5100 or Terayon TJ715 are backward compatible with DOCSIS 1.1 system.
Macleech, that pic show a Motorola SB5120, any info on that modem? |

| reply to ieee1394 I called tech support today and i was told they do support the SB5100 cable modem,i also noticed my local best buy didn't have any model but the sb5100 so i decided to purchase one and i must say im very pleased. I had the SB4101 before and my upload speed sucked lately it was running in the 60's now im getting 120 up. »/speedtests/23···51909181 Best buy also has a pretty good deal on the SB5100 99.99,20 dollar instant rebate,20 dollar mail in rebate so in the end you can get the SB5100 for 59.99.plus tax. -- Lance |

join:2002-12-29 Buffalo, NY | reply to ieee1394 There has been a LOT of cmts firmware/software updates to support the Docsis 2.0 modems. Mind everyone, this does NOT make the cmts docsis 2.0 compliant, but allows 2.0 modems to function properly
