w000000t oxygen!! I want your ping times!!!

Australia sucks ping wise. I reckon anybody would be lucky to get 20ms at the VERY LOWEST! All the tight a$$ telcos over here.

The fastest part of the largest backbone has ONLY JUST been upgraded to 10GBit, and for 10GBit I would be expecting better ping results, but they are shocking.

I would have to say on average the fastest any backone gets in Aus would be 1Gbit/sec, IIRC most backbones in the US are 10Gbit ?

I think Carriers will be changing to the new 10GB ethernet. but alot use POS (packet Over SONET) which ranges from STM-1 (155mb) to STM-4 (620mb) and STM-16 (2.5gb). I know my ISP (take a look at »serviceupdate.blueyonder.co.uk/m···0302.gif ) is upgrading there links between 'super nodes' (where servers are hosted etc are) to 10GB links. You can see Knowsley (liverpool) where most of the servers are has 5Gb total capacity to the internet (via telehouse-london).
So ISPs and carriers would probobly upgrade to 10gb, my guess is it could even be cheaper than OC-x/STM-X equipment?

The install with setup fees was like $4,000. Then $750 monthly. I got it so I could work for my friends ISP from home. He pays for it so its all cool.

AOLBroadband,

It's worked lovely so far. I've had it almost 2 months now and I always get around 180k/s on downloads and pings are usually under 100ms.

I would like to thank the troll for replying to a thread almost a month old. Also i tend to believe that he works for cogeco, there is another poster here who works for them and i think he once said that the cogeco speedtest site is connected to the company intranet, thus the reason for the really high speeds.
