| reply to Kamakzie XCOM,
Well my friend/boss is paying for it. He is paying like $4,000 to the place we are getting it through for installation/setup fees and a router and CSU/DSU. Then it is $749/month including the local loop. [text was edited by author 2003-04-19 12:54:49] |

It's probably just because of where I live, but I've never knew that T1 Lines are terminated in a NTI like that!
Around here, lots of the businesses have a 50-strand cable, which is terminated into a BIX panel. I always thought that if that was the steps they took for Analog Phone service, then a T1 must be very impressive!
Thanks for the pictures, I always wanted to know how a T1 line was terminated |

| very interesting
is this a residential installation ?

| richard,
Yep it is a residential install. I will take some pictures when the ISP we are going through finishes the install. The FOC install date for the ISP's end is Tuesday so they should come out shortly there after to install the router and all that. I am getting anxious I want it NOW but I know it takes time. |

| reply to Kamakzie Wow that seems like a pretty nice setup, is something like this worth it to provide wireless internet to a apartment complex? Like 80 units?
That would be worth it if you could have renters pay a flat fee. -- If PLC goes mainstream, every other broadband provider will be considered what dialup is today...not broadband. |

| reply to panth1 The board in the NID is referred to as a Smart Jack.
That unit specifically is an Adtran H4TU-R. That stands for HDSL(High-Frequency Digital Subsciber Line)4-Wire Remote, meaning it uses 2 pairs of copper to get the loop to the premise.
There is another unit in the CO that is an H4TU-C, or office repeater.
The 2 units sync with one another and create 2 768 Kb loops combined to make the 1.536 Mb T-1 pipe. Inside the span itself, they communicate using 2B1Q encoding, once the data reaches the prem, the encoding is stripped off and returned to the original DS-1 signal.
The units both have performance monitoring ability and remote loopback features to allow testing of the loop remotely by either the ISP or Telco.
OK, Lesson over!
