| Firmware 1.96h3 for AMIT HiP-400E / SMC 7004BR
I found this at »www.eusso.com/driver1/driver.htm (click at the bottom of the page on UIS-1400a firmware)
It looks like the original AMIT: no brand logo, blue and yellow interface The web-interface's main menu is regrouped and what I spotted as new features are : - WAN statistics in status menu - Virtual Computers and DNS settings in DHCP tab - Domain filter and Packet Filter - System Time (NTP protocol) - System log > e-mail notification - dynDNS - SNMP - static routing table
I came from 1.94a so I think this router is back on track with all these lovely features. (I have an USR8000) [text was edited by author 2003-04-17 04:30:36]

| I own a USRobotics 8000 and firmware of SMC was never accepted. AMIT was accepted well so I stayed with 1.94a (1.95j was unstable for me).
For 1.96h3, I did just a firmware upgrade with the exe. file and it was accepted so I think you must go back to an AMIT firmware and upgrade from there. |

@cox.net | reply to Rotsen Way cool. A new firmware and firmware source to play with.
Thanks. |

| reply to Rotsen This seems like a very good firmware. No tricks to upgrade to it, loaded from exe file without reset, etc.
Like the layout too.
Will play a bit more but for those tweakers who have been messing with other firmwares for the amit based router, this is worth a looksie. |

| reply to Rotsen Thx for the head out.
Have verified its essential features like DDNS on »dyndns.org , SNMP on SNMPTrafficGrapher, Mapped Server "Loopback & System Log on RouterLog for MyNetwatchman services are working well on this firmware.
I'm still stressing it, will report back if encountered any problems.

I'm running SMC R1.95n on my 7004BR and the new release will not install. What do I need to do to install this new release? |

| reply to Rotsen Re: Firmware 1.96h3 for AMIT HiP-400E / SMC 7004BR
I would love to try this firmware but...even after trying the crash recovery mode of loading it says "Wrong Firmware" the 195j firmware from thier site goes in no problem. Also the .bin file in the zip looks to be a little smaller than expected. for example: UIS1400-A_195j_x86.zip contains NBP195j.BIN @ 234,407 Bytes. UIS1400-A_FW1.96h3.zip contains UIS1400-A_FW1.96h3.bin @ 188,105 Bytes. You would think the size would be larger for an updated firmware. The new features of this firmware look great, I sure would like to see it running on the router. How did you flash this firmware to your router? |

I think you must go back to an early AMIT firmware (1.94a, 1.95j) |

| Very strange...Downgraded to amit 194a, now the .exe gives error "incorrect filename". I have "smc7008br" maybe thats why it won't load. Weird, never had problems like this before. The 7004br and 7008br are the same router except 7008br has 7port lan 1port wan. I guess i'll go back to 195j for now and wait to see how other users make out with this firmware. Looks real nice tho, what a bummer. |

| Tried this on 2 more smc routers one 7004 and another 7008. Both loads failed (Incorrect filename). I don't think this firmware will load on an smc router for some strange reason. If anyone gets this to load on an smc 7004br/7008br please post how you got it to work. |

@cox.net | reply to Rotsen I had been running Asante's 2.61 on my DLink 704P and uploaded this version from the *.exe file without any tom foolery.

| reply to Rotsen Here's my firmware ordeal on a SMC 7004BR:
- Previously on SMC v1.95n firmware. - crash recovery & downgraded to AMIT v1.95j. - follow by successful normal UIS1400-A_FW1.96h3.exe upgrade.

Problem is known from fetchmail, but I have no solution. |

| reply to Rotsen I'll try going to amit 1.95j. I went from SMC 1.95n, to amit 1.94a, to eusso 1.95j via crash recovery, and I'm now up and running on eusso 1.95j. I get an incorrect filename message when I try to upgrade to eusso 1.96h3, which is odd since I'm doing a same-brand firmware upgrade. |

@t-dialin.net | @kweiske AMIT 1.95j and EUSSO 1.95j are bit-identical (they have the same CRC32 in WinZIP).

join:2001-09-23 Oakland, CA | reply to Rotsen Still no luck with my SMC 7004BR. I tried:
amit 1.94a to eusso 1.96b, incorrect filename message at end.
amit 1.94a to eusso 1.96b crash, "incorrect upgrade file" message at the beginning.
amit 1.94a to eusso 1.95j - OK. |

| reply to Rotsen Same problems experienced here kwieske. 196b won't load either, in fact none of the "196" firmwares will load on 3 smc routers that I have tried. Something is different from the "195" versions to 196. Maybe this version will show up on the smc european site then we can all try it. Are there different versions of the smc7004br/smc7008br out there? That would explain why some are able to load it and some are not. Time will tell [text was edited by author 2003-04-19 14:23:01] |
