It wasn't the power distributors (e.g. PG&E) that caused havoc during the power crisis in CA. It was the producers and traders (e.g. Enron). Power Line Communications is a viable alternative. Total throughput should be about 2Mb/s in the next year or two...

Or raise speeds. 640/272 or 256/256 may have been fine 5 years ago but things need to change or Qwest is going to be left in the dust.

Well, of you're a Californian, then maybe broadband over powerlines isn't such a great idea. Besides the rolling blackouts we also had our rates raised by 200% at one time.

That already sounds like your average broadband provider to me. What's the point of powerline broadband if it isn't stable and cheap. Any Californian that signs up for this is clearly not thinking properly.

That's what I'd like to see
I wouldn't count on it. Qwest has been overpriced compared to Comcast (for years as AT&T) and Qwest doesn't appear to be in any big hurry to lower prices.
