| West Covina Getting Rid of Charter!
Has anyone else seen the announcement in the West Covina newspaper about the problems that the city has been having with Charter Communications? The city is actually having a hearing in April, and will decide on whether to ban Charter from the city. From what the newspaper read, they are asking residents to alert the city of any problems that they have been having with Charter Communications. Does anyone else have any more information? |

| I did have a lot of problems with Charter when I first got my cable modem. I had to call them back over and over again. Their prices are pretty high too for the service level that I get, but I must admit that I have had pretty reliable connections. Every now and then, I do lose connectivity, but it really doesn't happen all that often. If West Covina does pick up another company, I hope that their upload speed is better (because Charter's upload speed sucks), and I hope that the service is just as reliable. |

There is no more ATTBI! It is Comcast now. Best national major cable broadband provider is by Time Warner Cable -- 2000x384 kbps with no port is blocked $44.95 came with modem, no penalty for not subscribing cable TV. In addition, they offer many resellers so if you still not happy with Road Runner, you can go with EarthLink, AOL or DCN.
Just look at »/archive/ with Zip codes served by Time Warner Cable, they kill DSL big time!
In fact, I knew West Covina indeed with one of the worst broadband options cities in south land, cable by Charter -- the slowest and most expensive one around. DSL only by Verizon or its resellers, no others. Verizon is also the slowest and most expensive DSL provider around! |

| reply to Realativity I wouldn't count on a company change. These hearings are normal (they happen every time the franchise is up), and they always renew. The only time I've ever heard of a city actually trying to kick out a cable company was Jacksonville, FL and AT&T Broadband.

| reply to Realativity I don't think Charter will be kicked out but if enough people show up and tell their cable hell storys maybe something will be done. Lets face it, as has been demonstrated time and time again, Charter could care less about its customers. They just want the cash that comes with territory. They know about continuing signal issues all across the LA area but always point the finger at the user (or sun spots thanks to one charter tech). I will do everything I can to have charter fix these problems or have them kicked out. |

Cannot find Chris Freeland's e-mail address in the City government web site. However, they do have each city council's e-mail address listed in their biography starting at »www.westcov.org/council/index.html |

| reply to Realativity I have seen cable companies bounced before. Suffolk VA- refused to let COX in. Ran it themselves - sucked. Let another company take over (Falcon) - Sucked worse - Booted them and let Charter in. Gave them a 2 year timeline to upgrade and 12 months later, very little had been done. City decided to bump them and let cox have a try if and when Charter failed to meet deadlines. Cox didn't really want in after being shunned and the City decided they might take it back. Charter decided it really wanted to stay and next thing you know there are cable guys from South Carolina, Michigan and local Cox techs had been contracted out too. Massive upgrades occurred and service and reliability went up. It was funny seeing Charter trucks and Cox trucks a few miles apart working on stuff but I must say, Charter brought in whoever they could get and they are still here and service is fine. |
