Take a look at this, they must have fixed something...
For the last 48 hours my speed has been great. How is your speed?
2003-02-20 21:03:26 EST: 3024 / 357
Your download speed : 3024650 bps, or 3024 kbps.
A 369.2 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 357941 bps, or 357 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!

The best way to check is to check the speeds in your zip for Attbi, although since you say it's fairly new, I'm not sure many people will have done tests. If there are some tests just try to hope they don't show bad uploads like these here.

Also, while the installer is still at your house, make him do a speed test here »dfw.speakeasy.net, if it's in the morning you won't know if your upload is bad because even then my speeds are ok during the morning hours, but later in the afternoon and evening is when the upstream gets get bad.

Either way, if it works it is definitely worth the price, anyone who knows my story knows that lol, great for 1 1/2 years, until now. If not for the fact I might be moving soon, I would switch, I have a few dsl providers willing to give me service, which MANY people just don't have that option. Good luck either way.

It's all luck of the draw. Sure, ATTBI support really doesn't seem to care 90% of the time, and they don't really keep you in the loop with what's going on, but you might get a decent hookup and never need to worry about it. Every provider on here has their horror stories, but you'll usually find a whole lot of people who are generally happy with what they have.

Cable's cheap and you can get it without a long term commitment or hefty set up fee (the only reasons I ever did), so it's a good thing that you're at least checking it out.

heh none of this makes me feel very positive about my choice to order at&t cable modem. guys installing it saturday. im going to keep my verizon dsl and the cable for the first month to give the cable a try. my dsl just isnt fast enough, and im tired of dealing with verizons billing. however if i could get speakeasy here....i would in a heartbeat. but my choices are pretty much verizon and now at&t since they just became an option in my area.
You may very well end up being very happy with your service. My son, who lives in
Plano has no problems and his speeds are always been near the cap.
And as I said, with Comcast’s takeover, perhaps their technical support will improve.
In my case, they would not even acknowledge that I had a problem even though many times my speed was below dial-up.
I just finally came to the realization, that AT&T was not interested in my business.
In fact, I don’t ever remember dealing with a company, which has treated me with the total disregard as they have. Any other company would have been out of business a long time ago. Unfortunately, they have a captive customer base with few other alternatives.
Sorry for my little rant….

I'm going back to Speakeasy as well after ATTBI made it very clear they just don't want my money. I'm getting a satellite dish too, just so I don't have to deal with them at all.

Sorry if I sound like a jerk to those of you who are happy with your service, or those of you who are employed by ATTBI and really do try (I've been there, I know it sucks).

Good for you!! If the rest of us had choices (any) AT&T would be on their knees trying to keep us instead of on their feet turning their backs on us.

I've had crap speed and packet loss for three weeks now and all I have to show for it is a no-show truck roll that I waited eight days for.

Good luck w/ SpeakEasy...hear good things about them in Chicago.

Well, not only have I suffered thru dismal upload speeds, but for the last several days I’ve been loosing my connection as well.
Today I’ve finally had enough and ordered Speakeasy DSL. The package I signed up for will give me 1500/767 for $99.00 per month. Since I currently pay $83.00 for the ultralink service, I wont be paying that much more.
I was eligible for several other DSL services, but decided to go with Speakeasy because of their reputation for good customer service. Believe me, after dealing with AT&T and their “couldn't’t care less attitude’, I did a little research so I would not have to deal with issues like that again.
I found this forum when we were first transitioned from Home to AT&T. Reading the posts and comments here has helped me a lot. In fact, it will be rather strange to no longer be a part of this community.
Perhaps with Comcast’s takeover, things will improve among those of you still having ongoing issues with your service. Good luck to all of you!
