Problems Networking AOL Plus with Linksys Router

I have been networking AOL DSL using a Linksys BEFW11S4 v.2 router running the most up to date AOL compatible firmware. One XP computer is linked via ethernet, the other XP computer is linked by wireless connection. I have used both AOL version 7 and 8. Everything will work OK for a couple of days and then out of the blue I get an error message that the "AOL connection has been reset by the remote host." When I try to log on, I get a message that they can't find the TCP/IP connection. I then power down the computers, router, DSL modem and then power them up. I will get on for about 2 minutes then get the same error message about AOL connection being reset by the remote host. I will go through the sequence about 4 times and then sometimes it will start working and stay working for 3 or 4 days and then same thing happens. It is incredibly frustrating. AOL and Linksys technical help have tried everything. I swapped out the router and have the same problem. Anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions?

This topic is months too old.

We have already discussed on solutions and setting up routers via WAN (PPPOE). Read the manual on how to setup up PPPoE, upgrade your firmware, disable parental controls, set WAN type to PPPoE, enter you username (screenname@aol.com) and password, set MTU to 1400 in advance options, e.t.c, and you'll be done. You can configure the rest of the settings in the router to your desire.
