| reply to Eliptism Gee, here's a speed test from tonight and it was like that in the morning as well... to be fair it worked for a while today.
2003-02-25 01:43:44 EST: 1745 / 2 Your download speed : 1745426 bps, or 1745 kbps. A 213 KB/sec transfer rate. Your upload speed : 2166 bps, or 2 kbps. Your upstream result was very slow! .. not good Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!
Also had trouble sending email... only if there was a message. test with not text worked okay. But sending was slow enough to lose connection on some email and that's text only... |

Only solution so far: telnet to your mail server, port 110. find the corrupted e-mail manually delete it.

| reply to Eliptism Had the same problem continually from the Chicago area, and had about 6 service calls before it got resolved, somewhat, but I still have problems with it intermittently. Was something at one of the head ends I think they called it. Keep calling AT&T until you get a technician that realizes that there is a MAJOR problem. Its not a mac related problem...cuz I do not use a mac...and its not your mail servers if you've done nothing different to the settings, I had the identical problem using ANY mail program, including ATTBI's. Call them...its THEIR problem! |

Did you install any recent antivirus software or firewall software?
Almost sounds like something is blocking.
Yet you mentioned that the same machine on the work network works fine.................

| reply to jsolo1 Thanks for the help...
The weird thing is that this issue occurs on any server that I try to add an attachment to. For instance, if i log in to my web based Hotmail account and try to send a mail with an attachment the connection times out, same goes for Yahoo! Mail...basically anything that invloves uploading.
DSLReports.com speed test has my upload speed at 3K, I am guessing that this is not right?
Thanks in advance. |

| reply to Eliptism To the original poster,
With most systems, their SMTP servers will NOT permit sending unless you are logged in via their service (or unless you're logged in to their smtp server via some authetnticaton means). This is done to prevent email relaying and spam.
Rereading your post, you say that text only does go thru on all servers..... Have you contacted the malfunctioning providers to inquire if there is a limitation on length or type of attachments supported [remotely].
Sometimes other providers will provide alternate means of SENDING via their servers if you contact them.
Of course sending thru your work's network would work properly because you are logged in to that network.
I have no idea what iphoto is, but if you can provide more information as to what means you use to send pictures to it, perhaps we can be more helpful. |

| reply to Eliptism It also helps to try more than just 2-3 sites when you upload. See if you have problems uploading to other sites. If you don't, then it may be a routing problem to just one segment of the internet. -- My Domain Nightfall's Hockey and Life Journal |

| reply to Eliptism I would start by doing a number of pings to the first hop (past your router) of any traceroute. This is the CMTS port that services you. My guess is that you will see packet loss and high pings. This can have many causes and can happen suddenly on cable modem connections that have operated well for some time.

@198.74.x.x
| I've had ATTBI for about 3 weeks now and I'm experiencing a problem which is rendering my connection useless. The download speeds are great, but the upload speed is so slow that the connection times out, this is true for emailing attachments, uploading files, even filling out web forms!
It seems to be a widespread problem, I'm pasting a message from another forum below which details the issue perfectly...
I'm hoping that a network guru will read this and help us out!
Thanks!
>Sending Attachments Problem: >I'm using OS 10.2.3 and sending mail with Apple's Mail application. I can send text only emails through all mail servers that I have accounts on without a problem (AT&T, .mac, mindspring, work mail server). However, when I try to email an attachment (under a 1MB) the only mail server that can push the attachment through is the AT&T mail server. 99% of may daily emailing is done through my work mail server, and not being able to send attachments through this server is very inconvenient. One important detail is that this a recent problem -- I have been using the ATTbi service for about 8 months and only recently (late November, early December) have I had this issue. Before November, I could send email attachments through any mail server I had an account on without a hitch. > >Other Related Problems: >Other recent problems Include a limited inability to upload files. I can not upload photos through iPhoto to order prints or to create web-pages. I can not upload files to my iDisk. I can upload files through FTP, and I can upload photos to my iDisk if I Tunnel through TCP/IP using AppleTalk. > >Process of Elimination: >- I'm using a PowerBook G4 > Tried the wife's iMac -- Same email/upload problems occurred (Computer eliminated) > >- I'm using an Airport > Plugged directly into the cable modem using a new ethernet cable -- Same email/upload problems occurred (Airport eliminated) > >- I'm using Mail to send email > Tried Eudora, and Outlook Express -- Same email/upload problems occurred (particular mail application eliminated) > >- I'm using OS 10.2.3 > Booted under OS 9.2.2 -- Same email/upload problems occurred (OS eliminated) > >- I'm using AT&T as my home ISP > Took my computer to work and tried my work ISP -- Email/upload problems did not occur > >So it looks like AT&T is the problem (and again, this is all a recent issue). I called AT&T tech support to no avail -- They simply check the Network status in my area an tell me there is nothing wrong. They also tell me that I have to use Outlook Express, which is unacceptable for me. > >Does anyone have any suggestions? Does anyone now how to get a better level of tech support out of AT&T? (oh BTW, I call Apple about this too and they were very helpful, but in the end unable to help). I live in a hilly region of the San Francisco Bay Area, and the only provider up here is AT&T, so I really need this problem solved > >Thanks >Greg > > >>Would like to hear from anyone having problems wuth Eudora for the Mac. (v5.1, 5.2) using Classic (OS 9.2) sending mail on ATTBI. >> >>Apparently in mid-November ATTBI updated their email server software and Eudora is now "unhappy" having a timeout problem after sending emails - gives a TCP/IP Error -3162 "The server is not responding" alert. >> >>Of course AT&T support says they've made no changes and has you go through all the settings, etc. when nothing's changed. You can see from AT&T and Apple support forums posts from users who started having this and other issues so obviously they did something. >> >>Anyone successful getting an answer from AT&T and resolving the >>issue? I'd like to put in a bug report to their Maillennium email >>server software team but would like inputs to show it's not just >>me.
I sadly don't have anything helpful to add apart from to say that my AT&T Broadband exhibits EXACTLY the same behaivour!
I posted this issue at: »discussions.info.apple.com/WebX?···.ee6baf3 Look in the AT&T Broadband Upload Problem... thread. There was some useful information posted, sadly none of it fixed my problem, it may work for you though.
I agree that this issue makes the connection virtually unusable, if it can't be fixed I'll probably be looking elsewhere.
Please let me know if you find anything out!
Good luck! |
