First off my experience with current technology is that it is as reliable or more reliable than wired connections. I've used several different wireless data services over the years and have had excellent results.
You just brought up the second persception problem, the first is that it is only associated with phones, the second is that it is a wireline replacement. It should not be either, it's only due to the sad state of high speed deployment on the wired side that you would think to compare this service to a wired equivilant.
In reality this service is best used (and will be recieved by people who are willing to pay what is worth and not scream for cheaper pricing) by mobile proffesionals. |

| reply to pnh102 3G is more than just cellphones which is where the perception problem is. If 3G was deployed with the same footprint as cellphones (ie the carriers upgraded the entire networks) you would be able to have a high speed (384k+) connection for any computer you wanted almost anywhere in the country.
Unfortunately as you stated, their marketing department would rather push camera phones than high speed services for the business traveler.
Additionally their pricing plans reflect a cell phone mentality which won't get many customers. |
