Re: San Jose, CA : ATTBI just cut D/L rates in half!!

I live is Los Gatos. There was a DEFINATE change made. My pings are now perfectly acceptable at ALL TIMES OF THE DAY! Whereas I would ping 300+ everywhere and my first tracert hop would be 90-200 I now get 14ms pings to the first hop and most servers around here I play games on are now in the 50ms range. What config file are you referring to? I am not familiar with what you are speaking about. Yes, I've based this observation on about 3 days worth of doing tests the the San Jose Megapath tester on this site's tools. I actually like having better pings with a slower rate then the way it was set up before (1.5mbps down but latency was horrid) because I can again play FPS games online with little to no lag issues, I only notice the reduced bandwidth when downloading files. But, ATTBI does advertise 1.5mbps down and to halve that without notice is irresponsible.

If you are switching from a router to connecting directly to the cable modem make sure you release and renew your ip address of your pc for each switch.

Yes, you (and I) are in need of the elusive snmp community string set by attbi. That being said -

Does anyone know the community string currently in use in the South Bay systems? (it aint uuu9xzr5)

I had been having problems with my At&T Cable Internet Service for a long time. I am located in the south-west suburd of Chicago - Lockport.

I started with MediaOne and then @HOME and then AT&T and now I guess it will soon be ComCast.

I had the original Motorola CyberSurfer (grey). When I called Tech Support and told then I was have lots of latency they checked the line and then passed me along to Level 2.

The Level 2 tech did not know do I was getting service since they could not access my modem. I informed him of what modem I had and asked if it was DOCSIS compliant.

He said NO! So I now have a new tan SurfBoard SB3100 now I have more than 63 registering for my upload and DL as a little faster too.

Check me out:
