| Local Gov't
The local gov't I work for didn't pay anything to have a wireless broadband provider come to town.
All we did is meet with the fire dept. to secure access to their radio antenna (long paid for) for the base station, and meet with the provider to get a feel for their background, financing, business plan, etc.
We aren't endorsing them as a provider, nor are we doing any aggressive marketing for them-just giving them access to an antenna, and in exchange, free broadband for that location. Due to its centralized location, the signal blankets the nearby industrial park that is grossly underserved by the local telco/cable company, and the entire municipality, giving another choice to residents for access. Everyone wins-the taxpayers didn't fork over anything, the fire dept gets a free circuit, the industrial park gets access to broadband that they didn't have before, and all the while the city gov't isn't in bed with this provider, but allows that provider access to a market of customers that want/need their service. Win, win, win.
Now explain why this is a bad thing? -- You're the criminal that never breaks the law. |
