| Poll : What Heatsink Do You Prefer
What Heatsink do you use? A short explanation why and links to the Heatsink would be appreciated.
Here's mine :
I use the Volcano 7+ because it is an all copper heatsink and the fan can be set to run a low, medium or high.
This will help future OC'ers and BBR users find info on what Heatsink we prefer and think are the best. -- ◊◊◊◊◊◊ |

| I run DC projects, mostly Seti on 10 XP boxes, most mildly overclocked. My favorite hsf is this one -»www.nexfan.com/29/299.htm?850 It's all copper, mirror finish bottom (no need for lapping!) and has a 70mm fan running 5k rpm's. Copper clip that works well, has a screwdriver clip on each side, invaluable for all the different boards I run.
I like it because it's the best hsf that $18 can buy. Keeps the mildly overclocked boxes with 1.85 vcore under 50C with board temps of 37C, room temp 82F. Also keeps my blades in the outside storeroom 52C when the temp in there hits 100.
For a good hsf for little money, this one can't be beat. I'm a stickler for budget stuff that performs well... Thanks to the people here, notably sjohnson for recommending this hsf a while back!!! Paul -- looking for little green men.... [text was edited by author 2002-09-19 21:36:35] |

| reply to FastEddie I use AX-7. I had a Delta -ehe 80x80x38 fan on it. 80cfm of air kept my 1800 at around 31-33C full load. Now I use the Thermal take's Smart fan II on it and I use the thermal probe. Now I hang in the low to mid forties. But I'd take the extra heat for quiet. It is relatively inexpensive and works very well. It's a good combo of copper and aluminum. -- You got nothing on me. |

| reply to FastEddie I like my alpha pal8045 Very easy to put on and doesn't require you to wear earmuffs for your CPU to stay cool. I have a 48cfm fan on it (36db I think). Right now temps are case:28c CPU:46c running rc5 Works for me Edit: picture $33 at svcompucycle.com [text was edited by author 2002-09-19 21:54:16] |

| reply to FastEddie Thermalright AX-7 The good: This heatsink can dissapate a LOT of heat, so you don't NEED to use a monster fan. It's a massive hunk of metal. The clip works very well. I have installed and removed several of them with NO problems.
The bad: $28 without a fan. Due to its size, it may not fit all motherboards. You need to get a fan.
I like it, and you'll hear from others who are just as happy with it. Can be purchased from www.newegg.com -- These opinions are strictly my own. However, if you really want them, we can negotiate.

| reply to FastEddie This was a cool morning a few days ago and I turned the fan on high. On low it was 38C..but it was around 68 in the room.

Same one I use. I am very happy with the results. I always lap the heatsink for maximum cooling. That way I leave the fan on low and the temps are in the thirties to forties depending on the temperatues. On high if it is cool, IT runs in the low thirties. I always have a 120 mm fan pointed right at it infront of the CPU which helps immensly with cooling and the noise I find acceptable. (3 OCed XP's right next to my head)

I also use this HSF for my Pentium 4. It works great on low and makes very little noise. One of the reasons I chose it is because it is all copper, but it is a bit heavy. -- P4 1500mhz @ 1.57 and climbing, Asus P4B533 mobo, DVD-rom, 16x10x40x burner, 512 megs PC2100 DDR ram, 40 gig Maxtor HD, Geforce 4 Ti 4600 @ 315/735 |

| reply to FastEddie let's see. I have been using the volcano 7+. I have it now where it will give me 38c idle 40c load at stock volts. 42c idle and 45c load at 1.85 volts. Unlapped.
I did however just buy a Thermalright slk600 with a 60mm delta she. Just came in yesterday, so I am going to lap it this weekend and pop it in and see what I get. Was on sale at Sidewinder for $29.95 and $9 for the fan. I am really looking forward to the results. | reply to FastEddie While we're at it, people, if you post you temps here, it doesn't do much good unless you post your board temp and room temp at the same time.
I can get 30C under load if the room temp is 50F, and I can also keep it at 50C under load in a 100F room....
