E-mail problems?

Just wondering if anyone else in the Bowling Green area are having problems connecting to e-mail server? When I launch Outlook Express I get the following error:
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'mail', Server: 'mail.insightbb.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
I don't think I've seen this error before so if someone else has could you please explain it to me. Thanks in advance for the help.

i would say you have two options, the first being to remove and reimput your send/recieve settings under tools>accounts, sometimes that will fix it but if it persist I would call insight to see if they are having problems

I was having some problems this morning with my e-mail too, although the details are somewhat different.

-Evansville, IN
-Cable modem just hooked up on Tuesday
-Using Eudora to check mail (I won't go near Outlook)
-Was working fine until last night, and then started giving me errors about remote server shutting down the POP connection and the server saying that my login was invalid. Still was able to send and check my e-mail though.

I dinked around with it for about 10 minutes, changing various settings, and it started working without the errors.

The last thing I changed was the Eudora setting of "Allow authentication", which I turned off.

That probably doesn't help you, but maybe it does.

If you have a firewall, try disabling it and try getting your email. Also if you have Norton's anti-virus, I have seen cases where it is blocking the mail, try uninstalling it and see if that helps, you can always reinstall it.

There is no problem in Bowling Green that we are aware of. If there were a problem with the mail server it would probably affect more areas than just bowling green. I agree with the person above about redoing your settings. Just delete the account and then reenter the info. Sometimes, even though everything is correct in the first place, that will fix those kinds of problems. If you are using an antivirus program like PC Cillin, I have seen those change the mail server name and that can cause problems. Try disabling it.

Thanks for the advice guys. I tried redoing the settings but it didn't help so I called tech support we went through the programs I was running and the setting in my e-mail account. I told him I was running Zone Alarm Pro and he told me to turn it off, which I did. After that I was able to connect with no problems. I turned ZA back on and was able to connect fine. I checked the settings in ZA but still can't figure out what happened. Oh well everything is working fine now again thanks.

ZoneAlarm has been known to have several problems. Try Kerio personal firewall. It works good for me at work. I still use ZA Pro at home, but it hasnt acted up yet. When it does, it's gone.

Have you defined InsightBB's DNS servers as part of your local network? I am not sure how to do it in ZA Pro, but in the free version you need to go to the security tab & then click the "advanced" button. Once there, click "add" and choose the "ip address" selection. Do this twice, once for each of the DNS servers. It is possible that the reason mail failed was due to the inability to resolve "mail.insightbb.com" Alternately, if you have problems again with ZA running, you could leave it running an try to hard code the ip address of mail.insightbb.com (currently is 63.240.76.151) into the account properties in your mail client. This would eliminate the DNS lookup as the problem. If you hard code the ip address, and mail suddenly starts working again then you'll know if was a DNS issues & then should add the DNS servers to your local block in ZA Pro...

This information should be of some help = »www.zonelabs.com/store/content/s···6program But as long as Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora etc have permission to access the net under your program settings. You shouldn't in fact have any issues. As for the other users comments. 1 Kerio/Tiny is a very advanced rule based firewall. If not setup proper it does more harm than good. From my reading it is in fact a great firewall. But has a very large learning curve. As for previous uninstall issues with earlier versions of ZoneLabs products. Those issues have been resolved in the latest builds of ZAP & ZA+. The new version of ZA Free is currently in beta testing. And also is much easier to uninstall. I've used ZoneLabs products ever since they have come out. Only had 1 issue with uninstall. Actually it was more of a connection issue when I 1st got cable. But in the end was able to work around it. Haven't had any issues since. If you continue to have problems with Outlook Express Express & ZAP. Please let me know. And I'll send an email to support. To see if they can't be of further help. Are you using ZAP 3 or the older 2.6? The info above for 2.6 is still valid in 3.0. Just curious as to if your running the latest build. And if your running ZAP 3.0 if your running the Privacy Features.
