| Problem replacing my modem...
I'm trying to replace Insight's 3Com cable modem with my own Linksys. The 3Com works fine but when I swap in the Linksys, it doesn't work. The "Cable" light on the modem doesn't light up (except for brief blinks every so often) and apparently it never syncs (I let it try for 30+ minutes). If I put the 3Com back in, then everything works fine again.
The physical connections look ok. I installed the Linksys software and can see the stats page for the modem. The IP address is 10.13.x.x but the FAQ here says it should be 10.15.x.x. Could this be the problem? If so, how would I fix that?
I usually run the modem into a Linksys router, but I've tried with a direct USB connection to my Win2k machine as well. The behavior is the same. If knowing any of the stats from the modem status page would help, just let me know what you need and I'll type it up.
I've called Insight's tech support and I have my registration info, so I should be all ready to go once I can get the modem to admit that there is an InterNet on the other side of that cable.
Any help would be much appreciated! |

| I believe you Cable light is you act. light and status is you link light, and there is a wide range of ip used to reg a modem, just hook it all up again and go to »https://sas.r31.insightbb.com ( no proxy settings needed ) and put in your account number and reg codes ( you get them from tech support) then just replace the on thats reg'ed now and you should be on the go with the linksys modem |

| Ok, that seems to have done it. I wouldn't have thought that swapping modems in the middle of that web-page procedure would have worked (since I lose my connection when I do it). But hey, as long as I'm back online, I'm happy.
Thanks for the help (and the fast response |

| reply to Ki Ryn For those who don't want to have to make a call. Here is the formula I was given = "I know that the account # thing is confusing. But, here's instructions on how to get your account # and registration code from your billing account #:
The account number is XXXXYYYZZZZZZZAA
XXXX = 0000 YYY = City code (see below) ZZZZZZZ, AA = the account # on your bill, like ZZZZZZZ-AA
City codes:
001 = Bloomington, IN 002 = Kokomo, IN 003 = Rockford, IL 004 = Evansville, IN 005 = Anderson, IN 006 = Louisville, KY 007 = Bowling Green, KY 011 = Champaign / Urbana, IL 013 = Peoria, IL 015 = Springfield, IL 017 = Dixon, IL 027 = Lexington, KY 028 = Covington, KY
So if you have the account number 123456-01, in Louisville, the number is = 0000006012345601.
If it's 1234567-03, in Lexington, it's 0000027123456703.
The registration code is simply your account number minus the first four zeros, so that last example is: 027123456703." -- *IGGYZ* *TeamZ* |
