| ATT just does not let them disclose them at cost of there jobs... kinda silly if ya ask me... but all the same anyone that has any real reason to need them would know how to get them, also you said you were going to do tests with them, well dont depend on the results too much as I'm sure you already know pings are the last prority to a router so if the load is heavy you might not get the results your looking for...... | |

It goes to show. I'm still in learning mode here. Everyday you learn something new. Maybe if I explain what I'm trying to do it would help.
Right now. I have my gateway ip for my local network & ping it every 5sec & check it's lag time. Then I have my sat gate & do the same. Third, I have ns1.minspring.com It's an ip that I know never changes & name stays the same. I'm trying to get a feel for traffic. Is there a better why of monitoring this. I put all of this in winpulse(great app) It shows me a nice quick display of all the stats. -- rloconehttp://www.rlocone.com

| I've never heard of an ISP being that hardcore about it's DNS servers. They used to print them out right on the work order sheet they gave you when @HOME ran the show. Not sure what they do now. My DNS servers are = 63.240.76.4, 204.127.198.4 But isn't this different for each area? Hope Insight or no 1 else snaps for me drop those 2 ip's in there. But there it is all the same. You shouldn't have any need for them if you have the connection set to DHCP. But from your post above. You may in fact need the info for some reason. -- *IGGYZ* *TeamZ* [text was edited by author 2002-06-25 01:33:47] | |

| Re: DNS Servers for Insight? Your DNS servers are pretty much the same for each area, they won't change unless they re-vamp the entire network. I cannot recommend that you statically set your DNS servers in your network settings, but honestly I don't see a problem with it.
HOWEVER...
Setting up your actual IP addresses (With InsightBB.com your ip is either a 12.220.x.x or 12.222.x.x) statically either on your ROUTER or on your computer itself is bad. What happens is, the entire INSIGHTbb.com network is set dynamically. Your IP may or may not change every 5 days, as long as your router or computer(s) are set DHCP (Optain an IP address automatically) then you will not have a problem. When you set yourself statically then your lease is up on that IP, you hold onto it 'cause of your settings. This is why INSIGHTbb.com has you register your MAC's on the SAS sight to eliminate IP theft, as well ensuring that the customers subscribes to the needed number of IP addresses that they need for their home networks. INSIGHTbb.com has a team that does nothing but port scans, watches the CISCO routers, and so on, looking for duplicate IP's, servers being run, etc..etc.. -- KG4EVV A friend on the inside...

I ran my traceroute. I get ns1.attbi.com That's what I was looking for. As far as I know those ips & names stay the same. They are tied to there domain name. Whois will give you that info. At the time I didn't realized that. Forgot that ATTBI is the parent co of Insight. -- rloconehttp://www.rlocone.com

Hmmm. Interesting. Where do you get this info? Insight doesn't have enough money to build their own pipeline? -- rloconehttp://www.rlocone.com

| Re: DNS Servers for Insight? Insight essentially contracted with ATTBI to operate the InsightBB network. So did Comcast, Cox, Mediacom, and a couple other cable companies when @Home rolled over and sank. So, really, it's like @Home was, but with AT&T running things instead, and with different "customizations" for each cable company. -- Yeah, well, at least your name isn't Michael Bolton. | Info from Insight themselves... Was asking about trace routes myself and found out that info, they had to get this network up and running in less than 2weeks time frame because of @home's sudden bankrupcy.. so i guess they jumped on this to save an outage for their customers which does make since, and i would guess they plan to get a deicticated server up and running for themselves but who knows...... | |

| It's cheaper to just connect to an already up & running network. And actually Insight has there own network to a point. This was covered in previous threads here. If I get time I'll go dig the info up. -- *IGGYZ* *TeamZ* | |

| No actually your wrong. AT&T does in fact have stock holdings in Insight. And a lot of AT&T's middle markets were sold off to Insight. So if you look they actually do have a closer relationship. Other than just AT&T providing the bandwidth. -- *IGGYZ* *TeamZ* | |

Phone side of things? No they ( AT&T ) own a good amount of Insight stock. So that means they have some power of over what gets done what way. Insight didn't just choose AT&T for it's bandwidth provider out of the blue. The 2 companies have a relationship. Has nothing to do with phone service. It has everything to with the cable service. Again as I stated above!! Midsize cable markets ( such as my area )that were previously run by AT&T cable. Were all transfered to Insight cable. This was publicized when it occurred. -- *IGGYZ* *TeamZ*

| Re: DNS Servers for Insight? What i was saying is that they have the most control over the Digital Phone Service.... the Insightbb is regulated by InsightBB, trust me I know more on this subject than you do for various reasons.... They may hold stock in Insight, but they do not control as much as you say they do... out of you league IGGY... so lets not debate this any longer... ok | |

| Re: DNS Servers for Insight? Yes we are aware of your employer!! And honestly I debate this. The evidence is there. That supports the fact that Insight is in fact influenced by AT&T. The sale of AT&T midsize cable markets to Insight is in fact evidence of just this. As for AT&T becoming 3 parts. Isn't this in fact still in the works? Or did the split finally become final? And I was under the impression it was AT&T phone that owned the stock. And also provided the backbone. That fact I could in fact have mixed up. Either way can we drop the attitude a notch? Thank You. Oh by the way. Funny how Insight finally listened to the users of this forum ( at least in my area )!! They are finally offering great install offers!! Now some of my friends & girlfriends family might just upgraded there internet service!! So a big thank you for finally getting a clue!! -- *IGGYZ* *TeamZ* | |

| AT&T is sub devided into 3 seperate corp like what they are doing to Microsoft. The Division of AT&T that owns Insigth stock is an entirely diff corp then the one providing Insightbb's backbone. Everyone seems to be going with this backbone come lately I am even hearing that charter is dropping UUNET for AT&T's pipe. No Insight doesn't has the cash to build its own backbone. HSA 3/4 owned by Paul Allen(Co founder of Microsoft and I believe majortiy stockholder in Charter Cable) tried to implement there own backbone and scrapped the project b/c it was costing them far too much money. | |
