What about OS9, which is what I am going to be stuck on for the next few months?

I don't think any companies including Micro$oft are doing anymore programming/upgrading for OS9 anymore. I think focus is on OS X.

Re: IE 5.2 today

I got it.. it seems slower even with Quartz turned off

and the damn thing resets your homepage to msn.com !!!!! #*%&*#^%&*@#^%#(^%(#%^&(#*%&(#_@!!!!!!

AND it requires that all applications quit before installing... GRRRRRR!

I hate that crap!

Anyways, so far the MacAddict/DSLR scroll bar thing seems to be fixed... but we will see.

I saw that too I absolutely can't stand that M$ keeps pushing it. I won't use it. It's now just an added trouble to set it back to Yahoo.

In the past, when IE for X was updated, it showed up through Software Update. Why a separate installer, and not through Software Update?

because they wanted to reset your homepage to msn.com, and require all other programs you are running to be quit in order for the installer to run all on its own... go figure... there is no reason the IE installer should require that all other apps quit first... blah.

In the past the full IE app wasn't available from MS as a download; one had to get it off the OS X CD. Apple must have been heavily involved in IE's development (makes sense - what use is an OS without as browser?), but I guess they figure it's now stable enough to let MS deal with the upgrades. MS has also posted a 5.1.4 download now too.

I just downloaded and installed it, seems to be quite an improvement over 5.1.4, a lot faster with loading web pages. Now to decide which I like better this or Mozilla, I was running Mozilla in Linux.

When you install 5.2 does it automatically remove/upgrade 5.1.4?

Given the size of the install it probably replaces 5.1.4 which is then deleted. Yeah, I'm torn between IE and Mozilla now. IE launches faster, and the disappearing text bug that required a 'Select All' seems to be gone.

Isn't that incredible? When I saw that I thought MS had farmed out its EULA stuff to The Onion.

I'll take it

I like the new IE. Just downloaded it and have been test-surfing it for a bit now. It is definitely faster in page rendering. The font-smoothing looks and feels beautiful on my newly accelerated Lombard, without bogging the system down. I haven't had to "select all" once since I installed the new version.

Sometimes Microsoft does something right!

I still have to double or triple click on some links to get it to work. I also get the occasional contexual menu to pop up when I click on a favorite in the favorites bar.
