| New cruncher picture
My super secret solution is out of the bag! Patent Pending and everything.
I figured out that if I hung my cruncher on the wall, it would be out of the way, easy to get to so I can mess with it and have that "mad scientist" look about it.
I used standoffs, cover plywood with packing tape to seal in the juices, and screwed it on. Power source would only reach from there. The hard drive and floppy are getting mounted as well. I especially like my hard drive fan. It took about 30 minutes.
My buddy came over and asked what is that. I said a ECS K7S6A with a 1900+ clocked at 2100....It's my cruncher...he almost crapped his pants..he didn't know what to say. (I guess I removed any doubt that I am nuts) I have a 120mm fan I am going to suspend in front of it.
How do you like it?
I think I am going to sell it as art. -- Things that make you go ...HHMMMM |

| reply to HRM Ok, that's the finished product. Change setting..ram ..no problem. The stock AMD heatsink is crunching at 38C with 142/142 settings. I have to try upping it a bit now. It would go to 147 but freeze after a bit but that was when the temps were 44C, (it used to crunch at 48C sitting on the table)..
EDIT: The fan is hung with plumber strap from the ceiling it wiggles sligtly up down side to side about 2 cm jiggle. The AMD CPU fan made a noise when it was on its side, but the panaflo quieted it right up. Those big fans are the best. They are quiet and cool like crazy. -- Things that make you go ...HHMMMM [text was edited by author 2002-05-09 23:38:43] |

| reply to HRM I do have one how did you do it question. Since there is no case which means there is no front panel wires to connect (who cares about a speaker, reset button, HD LED, or power LED) How did you set up a power switch to turn it on? A picture of this could be helpful to people like me that don't know how to get past that part. -- Terry |

| reply to HRM I have the same kind of deal going with my (ahem, pay attention now) 486DX2-66 It is just lying on the bench and for the PSU I have a switch that I ripped out of an old case, depress the switch and it turns the PSU on, depress the switch again to turn it off. Now granted, this is with an AT PSU so I don't know how well it would work in the ATX world since I haven't ripped apart any of those yet (evil laugh) I can take a pic of the setup and post it if you want, after I get back to town (going camping tomorrow for 3 days) -- DSLR's Seti forum is the place to be! |

| reply to TOD548 Terry, I got tired of using a small screwdriver to momentarily touch the two pins for the power switch, so I ripped out the wires of an old AT case, bought a momentary contact switch from Radio Shack, soldered it on the end of the power switch wire.
edit- finally figured out how to use my digicam with a closeup shot!!!

"Power sweech, we don need no stinking power sweech"
I just use the nearest metal object to short out the two pins for "on".
PS. I know this belongs in the for sale forum, but any one with and extra power switch for sale? This board has connector for AT or ATX. I also could make one if someone gave me a bunch of pins connectors (like the ones that connect sound cards or LEDs..or switches) -- Things that make you go ...HHMMMM |

| reply to HRM I would like to leave this one up to FM's rat friend, even though he does look a little, shall we say, angry? But as far as I can see, you made the effort to have tape involved which shows good character. But I also don't see any bailer twine in the pics which doesn't bode well for you either... However, sticking it to a wall was inovative so I say we let you off with a warning this time
Edit: The fan hanging from the ceiling with the plumber strap clinches it for me, I'd say you are innocent of any wrong doing here! [text was edited by author 2002-05-10 08:29:22] |

Well, there's duct tape, and there's "other."
I've built a couple of add-on shelves for the sides of hutches--gotta put those scanners someplace--and covered the plywood with wood-grain shelf paper.

That would have required a trip to the store...money...and time. Total time = 40 minutes. All materials were on site. Total cost $0.00 Hheheeeeh
