| Eh?
My system clock reset itself to Jan 1, 1970. We've lost power intermittently about six times the past 3 days, forcing my Mac to power off each time. Maybe one of those times made it lose the setting? Nothing else is affected. Course it's no big deal since I just synched up to a network time server. -- Buy a 486-33 so you can reboot faster. |

| reply to rjackson Nice! I used to have a '64 Deluxe Beetle with a '65 engine (1,2oo cc I think). The little bugger required a lot of maintenance, but it was a fun car. -- "People consider me a pessimist. I consider myself a realist."- me *Pleased In Colorado* |

That's why they're "people's cars" =)
I love my VW as much as I love my Mac, I think the two share similarities. They both maintain a die-hard cult following, they are both misunderstood by the general public, VW drivers honk at each other because they "get it". I'm sure Mac users would honk too if there were an easy way to spot us from the road. Volkswagen definitely "thinks different" from the rest of the auto society.
VW and Apple also had some near identical commercials, they used the same advertising firm...remember the spinning G3 iMac commercial? There's one just like it done with New Beetles. If I can dig them up I'll post links to each one for comparing and contrasting.
P.S. I'm almost positive I saw a classic pink Beetle somewhere in Hyperjoe's photo gallery. Any other MacVW drivers out there? [text was edited by author 2002-04-30 01:09:27] |

What Mac do you have? I've seen some instances where even if you have it set to sync with network time, it doesn't keep date and time across restarts.
Just to check, you should check to see if the date/time sticks if you turn off the time sync and restart. If not, you might have to reset the PMU. |

I'm running an indigo G3 500 iMac (Kiva) with 512MB. I've had it since October and this is the first time it's reset. I don't usually have it set to sync to network time cause I don't have a constant connection at home (dialup). I figured all the crappy power outages we've had lately did something to cause it. I'll let you know if it retains the correct time next time I reboot =) -- Buy a 486-33 so you can reboot faster. |

VWs and Macs are definitely parallel universes. Ever read "How to keep your Volkswagen alive"? Someone should write a similar Zen-like manual for Mac OS X. They'd make a million.
And of course, every VW runs on a Motorola chip ('040, I think) for engine and fuel injection management... -- My dog ate my .sig

I got a well-used original print edition (you know, with the spiral binding) left over from the previous owner of the bus. Whoever thought an automotive manual would be such an enlightening read? -- Buy a 486-33 so you can reboot faster. |

The illustrations are classic, my favorite is the exploded bug pic. Everyone keeps insisting on telling me that this is not a technical diagram for some reason.
Hmm, Beetles and iMacs, they're both air-cooled...
