This Rbrowserlite is incredible. back in the XP days I went through gell to get the dam thing to load up to FTP. It took me over 1 hour to config, and still didnt work. It might of been a mis config of all the other stuff I had running to protect me from viruses. This RBrowser was up and running in less than 5 minutes. I am ammazed, and its fast also!!!
Thanks -hyper -- I have finally concluded that owning a Mac is an -ism |

| Edit: I like Quarex's explanation much better...
BTW: Also handy is the curl (-O) command for fetching files via http or ftp if you already know the full path. -- My dog ate my .sig [text was edited by author 2002-04-30 02:17:42] |

After typing ftp, it should look like this:
ftp>
Type open ftp site it will connect and prompt for a username, then password. Once you are logged in, the fun begins. Commands are similar to UNIX, type help or here are a few I will share with you.
ls list files in directory cd dir change directory to dir pwd tells you your CWD (Current Working Directory) get file Downloads file from server send file Uploads file to server close Terminate your session.
I find this built-in client very handy for quick transfers, don't have the overhead of a GUI if you know exactly what you're sending/recieving. For browsing FTP sites, I recommend NetFinderX. I'm too tired to get a link, just search it on VersionTracker -- Buy a 486-33 so you can reboot faster. [text was edited by author 2002-04-30 02:18:19] |

Have you tried Lynx, lately? I installed it with Fink and it was like a wayback machine. Web pages loaded quickly, keyboard navigation. Definitely the antidote next time you suffer from FlashSplashPage overload or the JavaJitters... -- My dog ate my .sig |

| I forgot to add........ When you see ANY command and want to know more......in the terminal window, type "man [command]" without the quotes and brackets of course. Typing "man ftp" for instance, brings on pages and pages of ftp commands. It's the same for any other command. If you're bored, try "man ifconfig" it's a page turner. -- "It's such a fine line between stupid, and clever. -David St. Hubbins [text was edited by author 2002-04-30 08:31:16] |

My favorite is still Fetch. The nagware version of it is available in most shareware sites. I paid my $25 dollars and I no longer have to wait for the splash screen to go away.
