| "Obama Truth Team" Orders GoDaddy To Shut Down Website A political website that contained stinging criticism of the Obama administration and its handling of the Fast and Furious scandal was ordered to be shut down by the Obama campaigns Truth Team, according to private investigator Douglas Hagmann, who was told by ISP GoDaddy his site contained information that was maliciously harmful to individuals in the government.
Hagmann, CEO of Hagmann Investigative Services, Inc., a private investigative agency serving a roster of Fortune 500 clients, was given 48 hours by GoDaddy to find a new home for his website before it was deleted.
Hagmann was told the reason for the shut down was because the website featured morally objectionable material. After GoDaddy refused to identify the complainant, only saying that it was not any official government agency, further investigation by Hagmann revealed that the order came from a group tied to Obama campaign headquarters

"In this case, we substantiated the complaints and found several examples of content that appeared to violate our Terms of Service. ...We dont speak to specifics due to customer privacy concerns. "
Maybe Homelandsecurityus would be kind enough to release GoDaddy from its privacy obligations so that GoDaddy's complete side to the story can be released. |

Maybe Homelandsecurityus would be kind enough to release GoDaddy from its privacy obligations so that GoDaddy's complete side to the story can be released. Looking at the article:
We don’t speak to specifics due to customer privacy concerns. We can tell you our terms of service prohibit content or activities designed to defame, embarrass, harm, abuse, threaten, slander or harass third-parties. We also don’t allow content to encourage unlawful activities by others, such as hate crimes, terrorism and child pornography. Our terms also prohibit activities that are tortious, vulgar, obscene, invasion of the privacy of a third-party, racially or ethically. Staying out of politics, Fast and Furious is embarrassing for the government, so therefore any site devoted to covering the scandal would violate GoDaddy's ToS? Would it be acceptable to cover Watergate? Abu Ghraib? What's the threshold? It's 'embarrassing' to have your mistakes outed to the world, but the risk you take as a public figure.
It appears the threshold is that Nixon is dead and Bush is out of office, but the current President is still in his term (and running for a second?). GoDaddy may as well say they won't host sites critical of the government or designed to embarrass sitting Presidents.
It looks like GoDaddy is filtering content here. They may as well say they don't like free exercise of the First Amendment on their site, which is their prerogative as a private company.
Note: I haven't visited the site so I am going off the story you posted and the story in the OP. -- If we lose this freedom of ours, history will record with the greatest astonishment, those who had the most to lose, did the least to prevent its happening. |

As Perry Mason might say, you are assuming facts not in evidence. I gave the site in question the once over, and there is a variety of material on a variety of issues as well as video. So, who's to say that the issue is Fast and Furious? I didn't watch any video, but maybe there is something there on some of the videos? |

Having also glanced over the website, which looks like your typical angry libertarian conspiracy theory parking place, I would guess that the graphic abortion pictures (which I hadn't viewed firsthand) may have precipitated the takedown notice.
The unfortunate part is that GoDaddy has already been an internet pincushion and rightly accused of being in bed with Washington through the whole SOPA scandal, so the charge is convenient and easily sticks.
It would have helped if GoDaddy had emphasized the objectionable material and downplayed the First Amendment concerns. -- If we lose this freedom of ours, history will record with the greatest astonishment, those who had the most to lose, did the least to prevent its happening. |
