[WIN7] OEM license question with machines

I have two identical OEM machines with win 7 pre installed.

One has home premium, and the other ultimate. The builds are the same.

One died. If I put the drive into the other machine, will Windows still maintain the OEM activation or is it version specific?

If the hardware is different it will need to be activated again.

The two machines are identical. One had the version upgraded to ultimate on purchase. Both use the OEM activation method rather than a key.

if the hardware is the same, especially the drive controller, it should technically work. When the drive boots up it checks to see if the hardware has changed - if it hasn't it will boot to Windows.

Remaining within Microsoft's EULA boundaries is a different question.
