Message 2(This is where it got sketchy) »www.tinypaste.com/2ba5e370
I have a plan in case this goes sour do you think this will work? What I could do is make a new email/new PayPal account. Receive the money and then wait for it to clear and then give him a picture of the shipping label. I'm anticipating a scam whether it's a charge-back scheme or stolen CC story to PayPal so could I make sure the funds are cleared and once this happens send the item and immediately close down the new email/PayPal and send the funds to my bank so its impossible for him to dispute a "fraudulent charge" Also, doesn't PayPal protect against such scams anyway so would I be safe or not? I'm thinking this over here I don't want to lose a laptop over this but this is the only offer I've ever gotten on it on Craigslist. |

I don't have the message headers from the e-mail, but I have a strong suspicion the message originated in Nigeria or a neighboring country. |

| reply to Coridus Notice the 'buyer' never mentions what you are selling. "item" "gift", but nothing about the laptop you are trying to sell. That's so the scammer doesn't waste time writing a response for every scam attempt he makes. A generic set of replies for mass scamming. |

1 edit | reply to Coridus I've seen that kind of scam email many times.
always starts with improper grammar- "I will like to know......"
then gives you a long winded story.
Most definitely nigeria. I bet the originating IP address is from there. You can check it on ipchecking.com
If you want to have some fun, screw with the guy, and don't ship anything. Send him a fake shipping label on a fake box, and get his hopes up. Get his paypal payment, though I doubt he will send anything. Then wait for paypal to reverse the payment and open a chargeback case. Then have paypal blacklist the stolen bank account the guy used.
Just because a payment clears paypal doesn't mean paypal can't take it back.
I am 200% sure he's a scammer. |

I am 200% sure he's a scammer. Better yet, if he pays with paypal, scam the scammer by setting up a new bank account, transferring the money as soon as it clears, and withdraw it, and then close the account. Its not fraud, and actually send him a box with a label on it, and take a pic of it. When he opens the chargeback case, you have photo proof that you sent the box, so, then its in UPSs hands, and they are out money. I always fuck with them just because. Got asked to ship a couch cross country once, had him believing I did, and when he tried to charge it back, i had already notified paypal of the scam he was attempting, and i got to keep the balance because his paypal was closed before he could issue the chargeback. scammers gettin told every day by smart people. |

| reply to Coridus as a side note, the mark of a craigslist scam is if they want you to ship it, or have someone else pick it up, and pay with something other than cash. If they are not paying with cash in hand, and are not picking it up themself, then its most likely a scam. |

| reply to Coridus Avoid da noids!
The last time I sold some stuff on CL I added this:
NO EMAIL INQUIRIES. TELEPHONE CALLS TO xxx-xxx-xxxx ONLY from unblocked, local numbers (blocked numbers or numbers outside the local calling area can't get through). Leave a message for callback on that number, specifying the item(s) you are interested in and, if you sound legit, I will get back to you shortly. YOU MUST HAVE THE CASH WITH YOU WHEN YOU COME TO PICK THEM UP DURING THE DAY. Location is a busy, downtown street, with plenty of security cameras. I am not going anywhere with you.
If you don't understand these terms, don't bother calling. If the descriptions and photos aren't specific enough for you, don't bother calling. If you are not able to pick these up in person between 8AM and 7PM within the next week in exchange for US currency at that time, don't bother calling. If you think I am selling a car, motorcycle or boat, don't bother calling. If you want me to wire you the difference in cash from a cheque [sic] for way more than the amount asked, don't bother calling (my mommy doesn't allow me to cross the very big street to get to the Western Union place across from me). If you can't telephone me, or think I'm being a prick with these conditions then definitely don't bother calling. This is a disposable number that will be terminated as soon as the items have been sold. If it says the number is not in service, it means you're too late...sorry.
Stuff was sold the next day. Only 2 asshat scammers emailed a few days later asking "if the items were in good condition and still available because they were new in town but needed the items shipped with the utmost haste to where they would be relocating in Nigeria due to their jobs with the WORLD HELTH [sic] ORGANISATION." (I was selling some old skiing gear. Imagine that!) -- "Dance like the photo isn't being tagged; love like you've never been unfriended; and tweet like nobody is following." |

More than one scam going on here..surprised mods haven't LOCKED! The link hadn't any strings attached to view the content for at least a few days after the thread was started. Your theory is that the OP started the thread to drive traffic to an online quiz? How does the scammer benefit? Does tinypaste have a referral program or some other revenue sharing program that you know of?

Did you see a survey yourself or are you just assuming that what was posted about a survey being seen by one poster is accurate without checking the links out for yourself?
I've check the linked to pages multiple times and have not seen a single survey. I even posted two image captures showing what I see when loading the two pages in question and neither page show any surveys. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |
