Re: West pricing - take two *snap*

A fair bit less than in Ontario? Why? I realize the speed is a touch different on my plan which is the extreme cable 38 unlimited...but $44 vs. 61, makes me curious. Is it different policies in the West vs. McGuinty's Mighty State of Hysteria?

It has to do with the different tariff rates.

I think it's two things.
1) The rates that Rogers/Videotron/Bell are charging the indie ISPs for capacity are insanely high. I'm not sure what Shaw/Telus are charging them, but I'm guessing it's a bit lower.
2) Shaw and Telus offer internet packages out west that mildly resemble competition, unlike Bell/Cogeco/Rogers/Videotron out east. Note that TekSavvy lowered their prices by $4-$5, and people were complaining that prices were too high. If you think TekSavvy cable prices in Ontario are high, then you should see what Shaw and Telus offer out west, because I don't think they're too far off.

EDIT: Or... what TSIMartin said.

Yeah those rates in the west are much better....

I guess Shaw is less greedy than Rogers.

Thank you Martin! Actually, even with the price increase this Feb. I'm still quite happy. Unlimited bandwidth, no throttling make it worth the money, especially with my work and Netflix. Now should it go up to something crazy like $99 a month, then I may have to drop down a tier. But no problems here (with the exception or Rogers screwing around on occasion). GO TEKSAVVY!

Rogers isn't greedy, they are just revenue challenged.

Yeah someone's gotta pay for their purchase of the Leafs...

Similarly Bell has just increased the prices on their "usage insurance plan" blocks from $5/40GB to $5/25GB.

I guess Bell has to pay for their half too lol....
