Man... Sprint sucks. I feel for you guys. Hopefully they'll get their LTE network rolled out quickly, and over a wide area. How great would it be to have a 50GB LTE Millenicom plan? Provided Millenicom could negotiate something like that, I'd be all over it...

Sounds like you need a cantenna or something to punch through the summer vegetation.

Jim_in_VA has all kinds of info on his website and you can checkout the 3gstore as well.

Vegetation? 2.7 miles through solid forest with green leaves. -75 dBm. No line of sight to the tower.

I personally think way too much is put on vegetation effects.

Jack,
I've written this before, but you and Jim live in a place that is little effected by any population drain on your Towers. 1/2 of your 360 degree local circumference is WATER. There are not a bunch of commuters in cars driving near your towers, nor are there 10-100 teens getting on-line with their friends....showing all those photos and videos they just shot.

I'm grateful for Millenicom. I'd be paying AT&T for overages every month if it weren't for them. But please recognize reality beyond that isolated slip down in Virginia on the Chesapeake Bay that you inhabit

I've been at 200k or less since last Fall, I don't know if someone else signed up but my tower now blows. I want to track down an antenna tower so I can get my grid antenna up higher and possibly pick out a different tower.

I am sick of Verizon and Millenicom not being able to leverage them. I was hoping the local WISP would be able to help me, even at a $500 install fee, but nada.

I'm getting very close to biting the bullet and getting a $250 T1.

This Sprint page may help...depends on how Sprint has been updating it. It gives a better map to Sprint towers....when it's working.
Just put in your Zip and address.

So have you tried a coffee can yet to give you a directional antenna?

How far away is your tower?

What sort of signal strength is your modem reporting?
Is it consistent?

Do you get this slow down at peak times or is it fairly random?

What have you tried to improve performance?

I've had AT&T for 12 years now and ever since the advent of 3G, I've never seen speeds as poor as you're getting now. Even with EDGE, I saw better download speeds. AT&T may have oversold their network with the iPhone but Sprint's network was already slower than AT&T's at that point; meanwhile, AT&T has put in a lot of hours and spent a lot of money to improve things, while Sprint has done... what, exactly?

So many people down on AT&T for how they handled the iPhone; While I agree that they could have done better, they never got as bad as Sprint, have always had better coverage than T-Mobile, and drop far fewer calls than Verizon.

Hate them as much as you want, but AT&T manages several insanely-large networks, all of which interconnect at some point, and they do a damned good job of it. Do they have some deficiencies? Before you answer that, ask yourself, which provider doesn't?

That said, there is no way in hell I would ever consider AT&T Wireless for a primary data connection, I blow through their highest monthly cap in 2 days. I'm not trying to convince anyone here to switch to AT&T, it would be unworkable for the vast majority of you; but can we stop with the AT&T hate? There is no basis for it.

I have an AT&T tower 1/2 mile from me.

That said, I dropped them when they first introduced the iPhone and my speed dropped to dial-up.
I would have gone back to them but they instituted a 5gig Hard Cap and would not even discuss my needs....at any price.....
I need 13gigs per month.
They absolutely refused to negotiate a higher limit.

Buy the way it's wonderfull that you have other choices for a "primary" connection.
Unfortunately.....due to the nature of the Monopolies in my area....Comcast and Verizon are the only companies that provide a Hardline internet service....and they refuse (Comcast) or don't supply the service(Verizon) to my home. Even though Comcast ends it's run 1/2 from my location.

I've been with Sprint/Millen since the Fall of 2008.
When I first got the service all I needed was a small Flat Panel antenna set in a window facing the tower.

Tower is within 4 miles...but the terrain is hilly and wooded not a clear shot.

When I start the service, I consistantly got 1.5 to 2.0 down and .5 up.

Then as Smart Phones started to gain ground....my speeds and my signal strength also went down.

I got a Cyfre Amp and used the ant that came with it.
Could get up-to 1.0 Down....but not at peak times.....like 8AM to 9PM. Good for me was .5 to .75

Last spring as the leaves came out, the signal got weaker.

I got a Splitter and started using the Flat Panel again.

This Spring this set up is no longer producing the .7 to .95 on a regular basis. Though there are times I can get over 1.0 to 1.3 down.

It has become very inconsistant. Plus recently, the signal strength has dropped into the 90 dBm ranges, at times during the day it drops into the No Service area and into 1XRTT........

This from the low to mid 80s I had been getting.

As has been discussed here before....when many try to access the Tower, the signal strength drops for those farther away.
