Re: How to fix broken edge on sliding glass door? Are you sure it’s not just a weep hole? The shape of it appears manmade. |

I was was a perfect child too.
This is where I learned about glass companies.
You might think about changing out all 4 pieces because they get yellow and brittle with age. When you start touching the glazing pieces they will break. |

Yup. it's from a hard rubber ball that hit the window ... my kids and I had a long talk (again) about throwing things towards the large, breakable window. My dad made me (us) change out the window(s) after the third time. I know we were abused. This was in the 60's.
We learned after throwing a football through 9 stacked up storm windows for cleaning. We didn't have to pay for the glass. Just do it!
We constantly broke basement casement single pane windows that had to be puttied in. Sports in the back yard mostly. |

When you start touching the glassing pieces they will break. I don't mind if they yellow What do you mean by "glassing" I think I meant glazing. I haven't messed with glass myself for quite a few years: Glazing, which derives from the Middle English for 'glass', is a part of a wall or window, made of glass.[1][2] Glazing also describes the work done by a professional "glazier". Glazing is also (less commonly) used to describe the insertion of ophthalmic lenses into an eyeglass frame.
Common types of glazing that are used in architectural applications include clear and tinted float glass, tempered glass, and laminated glass as well as a variety of coated glasses, all of which can be glazed singly or as double, or even triple, glazing units. Ordinary clear glass has a slight green tinge but special clear glasses are offered by several manufacturers.
Glazing can be mounted into a window sash or door stile, usually made of wood, aluminium or PVC. The glass is fixed into a rabbet (rebate) in the frame in a number of ways including triangular glazing points, putty, etc.. Toughened and laminated glass can be glazed by bolting panes directly to a metal framework by bolts passing through drilled holes.
Glazing is commonly used in low temperature solar thermal collectors because it helps retain the collected heat.
New vinyl is easy to work with. This won't be hard. |
