Re: [HSI] Where is the best place to put your Charter Wireless r What technology is it using? B? G? N? What brand / model do you have? Any wireless router should cover a 2500 sf home under normal circumstances if placed in a semi-central location. Hell, my router is in the far corner of my basement. I pick up my network when I pull in the driveway. |

 | its not just about picking up the network signal. I'm more concerned about picking it up and having 5 bars of full strength.

 | yea I know I don't need 5 bars But I enjoy looking at my 5 bars and it tells me I have great coverage.
Yes I have Wifi through Charter. I'm not sure exactly what I'm paying them but my total bill is $180 and I am under contract for 2 years. I have Charter HD (every premium channel), Charter Phone, and Charter Internet 15down.
Any suggestions if I do end up getting rid of my Charter Wifi? Do you think that would break the contract?

I get all 5 bars all day long on my 4 laptops in my raised ranch style house and even outside, on the deck, and my house is bigger than OP's.
Have a Linksys E2000, which isn't even top of the line router, wireless N router in a closet, in middle of house, in basement, under stairway leading upstairs.
How "crowded" is your area as far as other wireless networks nearby and what channel is your router set to use? It's best if your channel is at least 2 channels up or down, from anyone else's.
Was wondering why OP would be using Charters junk network equipment also? -- The Firefox alternative. »www.mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey/ |

 | because if it breaks...I can just go to the local office and ask for a new one. If its a router I bought from a store...I'm SOL.

Anon | My brother in law had a similar problem and the tech replaced the modem with a Docsis 3 model. There was no charge for the trouble call, so it might be worth your time. |

$5 a month is $60 a year. $60 can get you a new router. That's assuming you buy junk and the router only lasts a year. Also if my router breaks I can go to Wal-Mart even at 3 AM and get a new one. I guess you also pay the $7 modem rental fee too? |

it seems to me like you are the idiot here...... you must not have understood me....I got the 2 year contract price....so I did not have the option the pick and choose. I got everything for a bundled price. Plus why the hell would I want to go out and buy my own equipment. Like I said I like to have the peace of mind to be able to head to my local office if my equipment is broken and simply exchange it with out any questions being asked. If I buy the equipment at a local store like Microcenter, its not as easy to make a return/exchange, especially if the item is over 30 days old. said by TheTechGuru:said by BF69:said by STLCompGuy:because if it breaks...I can just go to the local office and ask for a new one. | reply to TheTechGuru that speed test was done at 1:30 in the morning.
I think my speed is 15 down....at least thats the speed I'm paying for....and at 7PM peak time I'm getting about 10 down(over wifi). I guess I'm happy with the speed.

You're only furthur proving you're an ID-10-T.
READ! That time is GMT, I did that speed test 30 seconds before the post! DURING PEAK TIME. During non peak I get 28.
I'm only paying $19.95/mo for this 15/3 plan, I was not required to use their modem. Working in the industry I work in I have plenty of cable and DSL modems and routers laying around. I have a Netgear N300 Gigabit router ready to go into action if the TP-LINK ever fails. I pick the TP-LINK for my primary router because it has external antennas which seem to greatly improve my signal.
I use a MagicJack on my connection to have a home phone and I have DirecTV HD for TV (WAAAAY more HD Channels than Charter!).
Lets see, Charter internet: $239.88/yr MagicJack Phone: $20/yr + DirecTV HD: $840/yr
That's $1,099.88/yr and you are paying $2,160/yr. Who's the ID-10-T?
Bundle's are gimmock designed to make it look like you're going to save money when you really save nothing. |

Well, extended promo, the local office just renew's it for me every 6 months. 30/4 would be $29.99 and 100/5 would be $59.99 |
