BB50 and inconsistent speed and pingtest results Victoria BC

Hi,

I was wondering whether I should bother contacting Shaw regarding the inconsistent results I've been getting when running speed tests.

My setup is as follows: BB50, shaw router in bridge mode hardwired to a Netgear WNR3500L router. My PC is then hardwired to the Netgear router. I have no software running except Internet Explorer when I run the tests.

When I test against the speedtest.shaw.ca site, I get decent ping results (20ms), but download speeds are consistently only in the high 20's to mid 30's Mbps. These speeds are on the low end of the expected range illustrated on Shaw's speedtest results. Occassionally I get peaks to the high 30's, but very rarely. In addition, I notice that my speeds drop in the late afternoon/early evening fairly regularly.

When I try external speed tests, I get significantly poorer results:
1) speedtest.speakeasy.net - the only server I get decent speeds from is the Seattle, WA server where I see consistently around 30 Mbps, but any other server I get 10 Mbps or less - reported pings are typically mid-20 ms
2) speedtest.net - no matter the server I try, I only get speeds 10 Mbps or less, reported pings are typically mid-20 ms

My upload speeds seem to be fine at all sites, both Shaw's speedtest and external sites. Upload speeds consistently range from 2.4 to 2.8 Mbps.
When I do tests at pingtest.net, I consistenly only get a B ranking with no packet loss, average pings in the 60-100 ms range, and jitter in the range of 26-45 ms.

I am in the Gordon Head area, and I know some others in the area that have had issues with packet loss. I don't seem to be having this issue, but I feel I am on the low end for download speeds.

Should I bother contacting Shaw about this, or are things as they should be considering I have the BB50 package?

Thanks,
Slow

They already know the node's overloaded, which is what's affecting the speed. The node split is supposed to be happening this month. Regarding the pingtest issues, definitely contact them.

I'm on an older classic package, 20mbps, I barely get 10mbps at best. Plus just tonight both digital boxes get the S0a00 error now, when they've been working fine for months.

Thanks Shaw

Thanks for the heads up RE our neighborhood. Hopefully the split happens soon!

It probably doesn't help, but I live in the gorge area, and my speeds are pretty consistent at 50mbps.
