Even though Apple will be doing a modest dividend, their share buyback will make sure the stock price remains high and doesn't drop because of the dividend pgm.

But by now having dividends this would get mutual funds that only invest in dividend paying stocks involved in buying Apple shares and expanding the number of investors that can buy Apple shares.

The yield is so low that both dividends and buybacks should be able to be absorbed into Apple's growing cash pile, meaning the big pile will keep growing, just at a slower rate.

As Horace Dediu of asymco.com put it: Apple isn't innovative with its cash, and that's a good thing.

Yield of 1.67% is avg for tech companies. Not good but in range for most growth stocks today.

Found out what the stock buyback is for:

It is to prevent stock dilution from the share options given to employees. Looks to me like Tim Cook is going to be able to afford buying one or two luxury items over the next 3 years
