Re: [Serious] VIA Train Derailment at Burlington said by DKS:The VIA station is at Aldershot Rd. The distance from Aldershot Rd. to King Rd is 2.4 km. It's been a while since I've taken that train but if I remember you're already at full speed by the time you get to the QEW, which is right in that same area. |

The QEW is about a km. east of the accident site., so the train might have been approaching top speed. And remember, 5 coaches for an FP40 is nothing. -- Need-based health care not greed-based health care. |

I'd say full speed is attained by the time you get to Burlington GO station. The accident happened in the block between King Rd and the QEW, a point at which the train is moving at a pretty good speed already, but certainly not full speed quite yet. |

You're still going faster through that section than you are through Niagara, though I will admit it might not yet be 120+
These trains accelerate a lot faster than one would think, though. We're talking a few seconds before the world is whizzing by you at a blur. A few passenger cars being hauled by a locomotive allows for some impressive acceleration that would would not typically associate with a train. |
