Re: Potential new NYC Fios customer So bottom line, which boxes should I be demanding when I call and make an installation appointment? |
 | Demand? You can demand anything you want. What you'll get is whatever the tech has in the truck. |
 | But it doesn't hurt to ask the tech. Could be he has both 6416 and 7XXX on his truck. Probably would try and give you the 6416, but would give you the 7XXX if you asked. |
 | How much does Verizon charge for tech visits if there is an issue? |

Probably would try and give you the 6416, but would give you the 7XXX if you asked. When they came for my install back in February (when the 7232 boxes were not in seeming short supply, at least in the NYC area), my plan was to refuse the install unless they gave me a 7232 from their truck. Luckily I had nothing to worry about as they showed up with what I wanted.
In NYC, they're pushing really hard in the buildings where they already have a footprint (and grab market share from Time Warner Cable), so I'd bet they will do something to accommodate you if you refuse your install otherwise.....You can be sure most trucks will have some 7232s stashed away for the right customers....

 | No SD boxes. They have a digital adapter which is SD, but offers no guide or VOD. HD box is really just one which is the 7100P2. You may get a P1 which has a clock. Don't think there is a performance difference between the P1 and the P2 though. |

A tech showed up to my new install yesterday with one. I had requested set-top box online believing they were all hd but this one wasn't. He had to go back to the truck to get a 7100. |

This is incorrect. You're right. A number of 2500s have been showing up recently, particularly with the free STB for life offer. -- There are 10 kinds of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't.

Right now I have 2 HDTVs and 1 SDtv. If I take the SD box, but then in the future upgrade to a 3rd HDTV, will I be charged to upgrade that SD box to a HD box? |

The checkout screen doesn't list all the channels, just the name of a bundle. Today is the last day of the cheap promotion is it? |

Just an FYI the 2500 Standard set top boxes ARE back in circulation with the FREE SD BOX FOR LIFE offer. If you had the technician install a 7100 HD box instead you will be billed monthly for it. Currently none of the HD boxes are offered for free with the exception of the Multiroom DVR for life offer in the NY metro area. Please don't complain when you get your bill and the Free box is not on there, as the free box is for the Standard QIP-2500 set-top boxes. |

 | Wow only NY has that deal DVR free for life well I guess that will make up of for the long wait on the img 1.9 update. |
 | Boston doesn't have a "free DVR" offer and we have been waiting for 1.9 as well. |

What are its limitations? |
 | It depends on which version of the QIP-2500 it is.
#1. Does not do HD #2. Is not as fast in bringing up menus, guide, etc. as the newer 7100s. #3. Can not run media manager for transferring pics, music, and videos from PC to TV.
In addition model numbers QIP 2500-1 and QIP 2500-2 can NOT run IMG 1.9 they will stay on IMG 1.8. The QIP 2500-3 will run IMG 1.9 though it runs slow compared to the 7100s. Most standard boxes installed are QIP 2500-3. There is maybe 1 or 2 of the older 2500-1 or 2500-2 for every 100 QIP 2500-3. |
