Re: Cold air coming in from dryer vent

I was having the same problem last week. The lint buildup was keeping the trap door partially open and the laundry room was cold. I broke the plastic when I was trying to clean it, so I got a new outside vent for $7.00 at Lowe's Depot. I figure I'll just replace it every few years.

You can get an expensive steel dryer vent, but they are about $60, and probably get caked up with lint anyway.

I think the key is cleaning it more often.

I need to change the one on ours out as well with what you have. I am pushing it off because it entails going under the house in a tight spot to gain access to the vent duct. I hate the crawlspace with a passion......

Really? Cleaning? Makes sense.
Though I'm curious to see if this lasts.

Hot air vented is very very humid.
I'd be surprised if the thing didn't freeze open with the cold temps we're getting these days: -5F before wind chill factor.

I don't know what you meant by steel grill. How would it help aside from being heavier thus close more? maybe?

As for the grills, ya I saw those. If I have to replace mine, I'll get one of those. Not much more than a normal grill.

Same here. My sidewall vent is aluminum, with a round aluminum gravity damper flap under the vent cap. Every so often I have to stick a big screwdriver up and scrape the lint out of the flap hinge. I usually do this "blind" while the dryer is running, which nicely blows the lint out. Then when I feel cold air coming from the dryer again, I go outside and scrape it off again.
