1 edit | Just got Eastlink bundle need a little help. I just got the 99 dollar bundle with eastlink with 20mpbs cable and everything is great so far but the DVR they gave me which is a motorola DCX3400 M.
I'm used to bell expressvu's DVR, while bell had lots of price gouging on our area, their DVR was pretty excellent with a lot of things.
But on the Motorola, it won't let me rewind/fast forward live TV, when I record shows it shows it multiple times of the same episode, and is there a way to make the favorite list that I made the main primary list, so if you just press the normal channel buttons it only goes to the channels on my list?
Main reason I ask, I have a elderly father that watches it, but his memory is a little bad and he will never be able to figure out how to use the guide, but he still understands how to use the old change channel buttons. So when he goes ot things that bring up a message like On Demand and PPV, it drives him nuts.
Plus I would also like it if my favorite list is the main one for the guide so I don't always have to switch to it.
Also, the installer said to me that the cables that go to the pole are old and I have to wait for some other guys to come switch it, cause he was by himself, to the faster newer cables. Just wondering if this could affect my speeds and also the quality of the TV broadcasting, cause I noticed that some HD channels were fuzzy and then some HD channels looked actually better than Bell's service.
I would just like to ask some people who know first before phoning up about the problems to Eastlink, cause half the time the techs don't even know, so sometimes it is better to ask people who may have experience the problem also.
Thanks for any info anyone can give me.
edit: I also wanted to ask if anyone knows if I can switch the PVR to one I bought if I can, can anyone recommend one to me? |

Re: Just got Eastlink bundle need a little help. unfortunately eastlink hasn't figured out how to set the favs button so it stays active and you can use the reg up/down chan changing. When your in the guide if you hit the fav button it will always reset the guide back to chan 2 and you can view your favs only up and down from within the guide no problem. While just chan surfing though when you hit the fav it will reset you to chan 2 and only the up button will work through the chans. As soon as you hit the down it boots you out of your favs.
Honestly I don't know why they don't fix it so when you hit your fav button it just automatically shows only the chans you have set whether in guide mode or regular chan surfing. |

 | reply to spiderprime well that sucks, but I didn't have time to record anything so I tried it out today and I just found out, while it says that it is recording it's not actually recording anything and says that I deleted it when I go to view it.
I asked the installer when I saw the DVR if the 2nd coax line in the back of it needed to be plugged in since most DVRs I know need something in the 2nd line to record 2 shows at once and he said it only needed the one, now I thinking I am right and he was wrong cause I had the same problem with bell, one of the lines to the dish went dead so the DVR wasn't recording anything so I had to switch the cords to another one and it was working just fine after Bell kept telling me it was just my DVR and needed it replaced but it was actually the problem from the dish.
argh, why can't anything ever be easy? |

 | I don't have the 3400 as i don't use pvr but i believe the 3400 only needs single line as the dual tuner inside handles everything else. |
|
 | you are right, I just fixed it, I unhooked everything but the HDMI cord and left it off for a bit and once it powered on again and got all the information it needed, it's working just fine now.
but I'm still having the problem with On Demand, keeps saying I need to activate my receiver to access it but will run and show everything behind the warning screen.
So after that is fixed, the only problem I will have is the lack of features on the DVR. |

 | reply to spiderprime my net recently gave out and same with the phone service, but I phoned them up and they got it fixed.
I just found out from the guys who came and fixed it that actually work with eastlink that the private installers that they hire only do half the job so they have to come back and get paid twice for commission.
The guy didn't change the wires outside to the newer ones that support all the information going though it. So they had that done in 30 mins and now everything is working wonderfully now.
But I still have problems with the DVR... it won't let me record 2 shows at once if they have the same title and are on different channels.
I wanted to record Law and order SVU on mystery channel and then the new episodes on NBC in HD and it doesn't work Now this and useless favorites are things I would love fixed in the PVR. It also wants to tape episodes on channels I don't even have, it would be great if they at least let you go in and say you don't want it recorded on that station. |

 | yea my buddy has a pvr and tells me once in a while their guide is not perfect. He gets pissed at some of the recordings too
I kinda found a small solution to the favs. I got a harmony one remote and programmed the chan + key as the favs button on the reg eastlink remote. Now at least going up in chans all the time it skips to only your programmed chans. If they just fix it now so the chan - key skipped to your favs too we'd be all set.
Not holding my breath for that to happen anytime soon though |

 | that's a good idea, I might go look for a universal remote. I wouldn't mind one that works with the PS3 so I don't have to switch between them for when I watch Blurays.
It's funny tho, since the day after I canceled, Bell has been phoning EVERY SINGLE DAY so far to go back with them and they will lower my monthly bill to 10 dollars less than what I'm paying with Eastlink.
I always say no and just hang up.
Also, I noticed I stopped getting telemarketers phone calls! Makes me wonder if they were though bell getting my number or if Eastlink blocks them automatically cause that is awesome, I hated them so much, I had at least 7 of them phone me every day when I was with Bell. I'm loving the peace and quiet now when I'm working. |
