Re: Why did they bother then?

Who's the competition?

Besides, Comcast doesn't want you streaming Netflix over their pipes. They'd rather you watch their own On-Demand titles on Cable from the Cable Box.

In fact, Comcast prefers that you not actually use the network at all and that you keep on paying.

Netflix wants broadband to fund the incremental infrastructure to support their On-Demand business.

In fact, Netflix prefers that non-Netlix subscribers share the cost in an equal flat fee model vs usage/cost based.

PS It is one thing to absorb incremental bi-directional Internet traffic (part of your service and traffic exchange between networks). It is another thing to have something that drives a huge uni-directional addition to your infrastructure cost.

Netflix is good, I just think that Netflix should have some cost burden similar to how On-Demand network costs are paid for internally. Either put it in the price or charge separately. Should be the same playing field and Netflix should not get anything special here.

You honestly are dense enough to think that Netflix is not paying for its costs?

They do pay for their bandwidth and the people viewing it pay for their home internet connection. Why should Netflix have to pay protection racket money to the ISPs when they already rack up a bandwidth bill.
