 | The box with the px12072 battery in it. What is it? Not the ONT, but the other Verizon box that they install with a FIOS internet home connection.
There's a PX12072 battery in it.
That box is screeching at me that the battery needs to be replaced.
What is that box & who is responsible for the battery? Is it me or Verizon? Can I just buy one on ebay & put it in myself?
Any way to stop the replace battery alert screeching from the box? |

| You can replace the battery yourself. It's a standard 7AH 12V battery with F2 terminals.
It's a battery backup. It provides you with phone service for a certain length of time in the event of a power outage.
Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery can sometimes temporarily quiet the alarm. -- So put me on a highway, and show me a sign. And take it to the limit one more time... |

 | Thanks for the fast reply!!
It's interesting that it's for telephone service, since I only use FIOS for the internet. I use Vonage for phone.
Can I just shut the box with the px12072 battery off?
Does it provide any function for the internet line at all? |

| In my case, I have an older ONT with a combination battery-backup and power supply. You can't turn it off.
My brother got FIOS more recently, and his ONT actually has the battery right in it.
It has been debated on here whether or not the battery provides other functionality (internet/tv) going in the event of a power outage. I don't recall the final conclusion. -- So put me on a highway, and show me a sign. And take it to the limit one more time... |

 | Your disconnecting & reconnecting the battery trick worked.
no more screeching.
I'll order a battery online.
Thanks again for your help. |

 | It's a necessary part of the configuration regardless of whether you get phone, internet, or t.v. It feeds power to the ont from the power supply and needs to remain connected. The easiest thing is to replace the battery. It will provide power for internet and or t.v. for only about 10 minutes during a power outage. |

It has been debated on here whether or not the battery provides other functionality (internet/tv) going in the event of a power outage. I don't recall the final conclusion. My box from 2007 provides TV and internet for around 5 minutes when the power is out. Then it shuts those off and only powers phone service. This is why I connect it to my own UPS so I will have 16 to 19 hours of TV and internet use during a power outage. |
