Re: [Cable] TekSavvy is Actually Oversubscribed

What you're missing here Quakky, is that when the process started to get the "speed increase" it was so that TekSavvy could offer what Rogers was offering ... i.e. the next tier up from Express and Extreme. This was before 24/1 ...

What happened was that in the middle of the process, Rogers decides to upgrade the Express and Extreme tiers too. The two tiers that were the bulk of the customers ... Express went from 10 to 12 and Extreme went from 15 to 24 ... that's an increase of 20 and 50+% respectively. Whilst Teksavvy requested upgrades to their own POI connections, it wasn't fast enough to cope with this change of speeds from Rogers and their own dramatic increase in customers. Now, add to that all the delays Rogers puts in in installing the POI upgrades at their leisure.

TekSavvy wasn't prepared for the whammy of Rogers sudden speed increases to the two major selling packages. I'm sure they gave them to TSI realizing that the POIs could choke. Rogers seems to operate that way. It may not be written anywhere in a memo, but the sort of thing that's achieved by word of mouth. What have you got on today? Oh the new TSI GIG-E link? What else have you got on ? Maintenance on the YM-Front Rogers link? Probably should do the YM-Front link first.

I think that you proved my point even further. Teksavvy's original plan for the upgrade that they did on york mills was insufficiant to get any sort of speed upgrades or new subscribers. it was enough for one thing only; getting rid of congestion. Look at it this way..What's the difference between having current subsribers' speeds bumped up on their current teir and introducing a higher than Extreme teir that people can sign up for? The only difference is the price of the package, but more than likely, we would end up being in the same place where people are getting 1/10 of the speed they signed up for. In fact it would be worse than it is right now because (as it was stated previously) Teksavvy was saying that with the new upgrade they were at 70% capacity at the york POI, so they would have signed up more customers, and then would have gotten this bizzare speed bump that would have crippled things. At least now there they aren't signing people up.

I see roger's speed bump on current packages as a blessing, as if Rogers was saying "Hey guys, might wanna double check your numbers before you do something stupid."

You still seem to be missing the point.

The increased speeds on Express and Extreme weren't on the table when the request for the next tier was made. How could they order upgrades for something they didn't know was coming?

Then when the increased Express and Extreme speeds arrived, they had to put in another round of requests for upgrades. Which is all very well, but Rogers drags their feet on these upgrades, plus the fun of the aggregated POI is in the works, so it's kind of crazy if all the investmernt is put into the individual POIs if in a couple months, that could all be shot in the feet.

The incumbents and CRTC have put TPIA's in a really difficult position.

There is so much finger pointing like an 8 year old kid fight "HE DID IT" that the real point is missed... TPIA is trying to win over customers. Todo this, they must be better then the other idiots. Doesn't matter whose at fault. To win they must win customers

Teksavvy has fallen behind on many levels of customer service as well. Should this be blamed on Rogers too? I mean i'm so absolutely sick and tired of seeing Rogers, Bell etc blamed for everything. Oversubscribing has nothing to do with them, customer service has nothing to do with them... providing credit on a bill not in 6-8 weeks has nothing to do with them, followup phone calls during an install has nothing to do with them.

There was a time when TSI called few days before install date to confirm details... call day of or day later to confirm install. Tek is pretty stingy with credit, sure their profits are "minimal" but how about my wallet, it doesn't refill itself automatically, so i sure as heck do not have an unlimited bank account.

It's not TSI specially i'm blaming for the blame game... quit being so naive and thinking every problem Tek has is someone elses problem. End of the day no matter what any of us say, Tek has changed a lot, they took on too much too soon. Sadly we customers pay the price. They keep up what they are doing it's recipe for disaster.

Sadly i'm doing with slowdowns but i have the fear of a $99 fee because im WITH a TPIA provider, so i play the waiting game.

I'm not blaming Rogers other than their foot dragging on installing ordered upgrades. It's just a fact of life that this is how things conspired to produce a problem

Even Rogers are struggling to cope after these speed upgrades. People upgraded to Ultimate and are getting a fraction of the speed.

I'm not trying to play "TekSavvy can do no wrong" here ... I'm just trying to point out that sometimes blame is improperly placed at TekSavvy's doorstep for circustances beyond their immediate control. ... As in "Shit Happens".

On the other hand, I can see how that "Shit Happens" problems can get put together with other problems that they have more control over to just ruin the customer experience.

It's not just TekSavvy ... it's all kinds of companies in all kinds of fields that suffer in the transition from small company to big company, and it's not always from being too popular. Sometimes it's just knowing how to manage that growth. I'm quite certain that I wouldn't be able to do it! I was just talking yesterday with a friend who worked for a small metal parts fabricator. The company originally started with prototype fabrication, but tried to grow to small scale production fab. The company grew significantly, but the ability to manage that growth failed, and so the owner ended up back doing modified prototype fab out of his own basement. It wasn't lack of work that prompted the failure, but too much work!

Please explain to me how a speed upgrade would cause more strain on the POIs when we're getting nowhere close to the advertised speeds during peak hours before and after the POI upgrade?
