Re: [DSL] better line stats, slower speed.

said by ericmcdaniel:

Where can I see what I am provisioned for? I can't

Some modems can display that info, the line stats from the dslam have it....most often the billing will indicate the purchased speed

I haven't had a billing cycle yet. They performed the setup last week, so it'll be a couple more weeks.

I am actually using a Netopia-3000 modem, but they supplied me with the Sagecom (siemens?) SE567. Line stats look identical with each modem, just a different GUI. The only difference I notice between the two is the Motorola has a dramatic wireless range increase over the SE567...

What I'm trying to say, I know the SE567 doesn't show what you're provisioned at, and unless I am mistaken, neither does the Motorola...

The se567 and the motorola don't display the dslam provisioned rate but the motorola will show the maximum attainable sync rate using a telnet session

##ATTNDR 2912 448

I just remembered something also... the tech, when he installed my DSL, he ran another line out to the box at the road because he said I was missing a line... When the guys came out to bury the cable, I was using the net. When they got it buried and ready to connect to the box, obviously my internet went out. It was out for about 2 minutes, then when it came back up it was fluctuating in speed. My ATU-C was going crazy, from 2-3Mb to 11-12Mb. I had a download going, and it went from about 120kB/s to 2MB/s where it stayed for about a minute, then it dropped to 700kB/s for close to another minute, then slowly worked it's way back down to 110-120kB/s...

Maybe some bad connections at the road?

##ATTNDR 2912 448
I think the above is the maximum attainable sync rate I'm used to looking at a larger part of the surrounding information
The attndr shows that the sync rate has room to increase

The line rate may be the dslam provisioned rate but I'm just guessing

For future reference, to display that on the netgear-3000, you do not need to access it via command prompt.

At the home screen, click troubleshoot/system status/all status. It gives you the exact same readout as accessing via telnet.

Although, when I go about it that way, I get a different (tho not really a whole lot) value for ATTNDR...

NetRate 1344 192
AggrRate 1376 224
TotalRate 1376 224
LineRate 1588 280
#ATTNDR 3104 448

Using telnet you'll get a loop length estimate
The maximum attainable sync rate figure changes constantly with line conditions

you get the loop length in the GUI as well...

ACTATP -1 -1
ACTPSD -365 -345
HLINSC 0
Estimated loop length: 11448 feet (bridge tap)
Framing Mode: 3 - (REDUCED OVERHEAD WITH MERGED SYNC)
TPS-TC Encoding ATM

I have been monitoring my ATTNDR, and it's averaging about 3000... no lower than 2900, not much more than 3100... so am I correct in assuming that I am getting screwed around here by the techs?

How about that 2 mile loop. haha

I didn't know that!!
What is the software version and model number of the netopia

I would not call it being "screwed"
I would push for someone to check the dslam line stats and setup for your port
I'm begining to think the sync rate is set to something less than 3000kbps

Your loop is a exceptional one...............very exceptional

Yeah, the tech who set it up told me that for reasons unknown to him, they ran an unusually large gauged phone wire on my road, which is why people down near the end of the line here can even get service. Even still, they shouldn't jerk me around about 1Mb being MAX!

And I'm using software version 7.8.1r2 on model # 3347-02

I got it from a friend who had AT&T. Said he didn't need it anymore and asked if I wanted it. I was sold when I saw that my iPhone can still pick up wifi signal almost 100yds from my house!

The gauge does it
Some people just won't accept that a modem can display the maximum attainable sync rate or that the figure is accurate

I'm guessing the full part number is 3347-02- 1022

I had to physically check the modem itself, but you assume correct. 3347-02-1022 is the full model #.

My apologies, the GUI didn't show the last bit.

The tech never showed up or called yesterday afternoon, but as I was watching something on Netflix this morning, I noticed my show had paused. I checked my modem stats to see if I was down, and I was synced at 2624/320.. I ran a speed test and I'm getting 2220/260.

Go ahead local techs, tell me again that it is 100% impossible to get those speeds out here! SAY IT AGAIN! haha

I honestly think there's someone watching these forums and playing games with some people around here . Anyways, congrats!

Would you post the 3347 stats again......did any of figures change

NetRate 1344 192
AggrRate 1376 224
TotalRate 1376 224
LineRate 1588 280

updated stats:

NetRate 2624 320
AggrRate 2656 352
TotalRate 2656 352
LineRate 2960 416
ATTNDR 3104 448

The NetRate is the same as the "Data Rate" on the DSL tab. The other numbers.... no clue.

I also noticed a significant drop in my DS SNR (from avg of 13-15dB down to 9.5-10dB) and my DS attenuation (from 57-58dB up to 60dB) is that odd or is it related to higher provisioning?

wayjac

I think the sync rate = data Rate = net rate = aggrrate = total rate

Did you notice that the line rate changed from 1588/280 to 2960/416

Whenever the sync rate is increased the snr will decrease the snr can be a rough estimate of the total capacity of the dsl loop

The attenuation can be used as a measurement of loop length but loose/bad connections and wire gauge will affect this figure

So my line should now be pushing about as fast as it can go and still stay stable, yes?

wayjac

The more kbps that seperate the sync rate from the maximum attainable sync rate gives stability

Whenever the maximum attainable sync rate gets too close or below the current sync rate the modem will retrain with the dslam

I think the line rate is the dslam provisioned rate
