in Queens we had a line of thunderstorms that blew through around 4:40pm with a tornado speed gust that lasted a 20-30 seconds and blew down tree limbs, roof antenna, and had tictac size hail in it - with lightning that put on quite a show

Tornado has taken a nasty turn through Queens as we speak. Heading northeast toward L.I. Sound. Heavy wind damage and torrential rains and hail. Be careful.

It was pitch black here in Manhattan - air had that special heavy feel of something about to happen. Lightening gave a great show then the rain came down in torrents and wind was just scary. I think we probably got off the lightest of all the boroughs.

Someone confirmed dead on exit 12 off the grand central parkway from a tree. Seems like there is alot of injurys from trees, scaffolds and wires in Brooklyn.

Not sure what is down in Central Park ... but there are limbs everywhere - along with a zillion dead umbrellas.

ConEd is reporting a ton of out outages in Queens. I think everyone is just coming out of their buildings to start assessing the situation.

Forest hills has a lot of downed trees & building power outages. Just heard from family..

They say Queens Blvd has folks just wandering about, looking at all the damage.

yeah, i just walked around my building to see before it's dark.
within a single block of my home we have 2 blow off roof antenna,
one tree feel from it's base, another tree limb crushed a car roof.
thankfully, no flooding this time as DEP finally upgraded our sewers.

Was at forest hills leaving the college, the bus stops were completely destroyed. Took some crappy cellphone pics of the damage. Telephone/electrical wires everywhere and trees all over the road. Tree landed on a car on the highway, didn't look good with the ambulance and police surrounding it

That was fun for sure though. Got freaking soaked.

Some pics I took on an old phone in Queens. That burst of rain that ran across the air horizontally and everything falling was awesome (except for the families and hurt ones of course around there). My usual bus stop was destroyed

I'm amazed at the pics of damage..and the videos from the boroughs.. unreal.

At least w/ a hurricane we have several days of notice - this was pretty quick, wasn't it?

Power restored in the Hills..but no Time Warner (cable, phone,internet), guess they'll be working thru the night

Where in Forest Hills are you? I lived on 76th Rd & 113th...a block off QB.

I walked out of the Wall Street station during the height of the storm and it looked like night outside with ridiculous torrents of rain. So many guys in full business suits were running into the 60 Wall atrium soaked head to toe, even with umbrellas open.
