Re: [Praise] Online Bill Pay said by Alcohol:said by dvd536:said by Msradell:No you don't! Online bill payment is directly through the bank and does not involve a debit card. uhmmmm. and if your banks online server is hacked. . . I rest my case. Then it wouldn't matter if you're paying bills with it. Are you suggesting we shouldn't use debit accounts and keep our money (cash) under the mattress? course not but there are safer ways of paying than using online stuff. i've never lost a penny in my bank account by paying with a money order! -- The shortest distance between 2 points adds 1.5 stars to T. want $25? solve »coord.info/GC20A37 for me |

before i got a checking account i did money orders. but i only got them from the postal service. i could be wrong, but i was told that if some one cashes a money order from a store and says they didnt get it not much can possibly happen. perhaps "check fraud" charges. but if they do the same thing with a money order from the postal service they can be charged with "mail fraud" which carries a stiffer penalty.
like i said tho, i could be wrong. and besides. the post office was closer at the time :: shrugs :: |

And what do you do when the online seller doesnt ship your item you paid for with a money order? Go to the post office and shake your fist? |

j/k.
been doing it online for years, no problem at all. money orders can be lost in the mail. then what? your payment will probably be late. |

| reply to dvd536 With two credit cards and two checking accounts, I've been using online payment as often as I could and never had a single problem. Everything got paid on time and no one ever stole my account info. Only people getting 'hacked' are the ones who enter their credit card info on shady websites...
As for those saying what if the bank server gets hacked? Well, the odds of a mailman not delivering a letter with a check, someone mugging you, someone stealing the money order and cashing it themselves, etc. is a lot more likely.
Just look at the last few decades... How many bank servers were hacked vs how many people cashed in money order/cheques that were stolen or fake, how many letters did not get delivered and how many people got mugged... |

Money orders have their own set of problems. In the first place the money is out of your account when you buy the money order not when the person you send it to cash's it. Secondly if it gets lost getting a refund is a major problem that's nearly impossible in some cases and takes a long time no matter what. The only good thing is that they can't get your account number. |

Which one wouldn't be the first rant about bill payments flat out fucking up? Never seen one myself in a couple of years here (and certainly not with a decent bank like mine, maybe some shit outfit). Pretty much only heard of user errors (ie. sending the rent money to the phone company).
LOL so you pay for fedex to get your money orders there reliably and quickly. My online bill payments are next-day on time every time for free.
Anyways you can keep paying for money orders, fedex and wasting your time with paper. I'll keep taking about 10 seconds to pay each bill for free using a system I've used for over a decade without a problem. |
