Re: Netgear has DISCONTINUED the WNDR3700

Hi Dave, long time.

Thanks for the tip. I had a gut feeling about something funny going on like that. I almost bought one from Walmart yesterday and decided to put it back. You know that small quiet voice in the back of your head going... "Hmmm if I get stuck with something that is being upgraded in secret I will be truly P.O.".

But you know if someone doesn't steer me right - I was going to go back over today and pick it up. Sometimes the need for a new toy overrides common sense.

Yesterday I saw one in Best Buy I looked at one and it was priced at $179 and it was marked "N600" and I spent several minutes trying to figure out if it was a 3700, looked and smelled like one. Then in small type in the lower corner I saw a label "3700", nothing more. So it is obvious you are spot on as usual.

Salute, you have saved me from a giant temper tantrum.

George, i'm glad that you got the N600

If you are wondering what the difference is between the N300 and the N600 the N600 produces 4 streams utilizing 4 radios that deliver a max throughput of 600Mbps [they call it 300 + 300] whereas the N300 has 2 radios producing 2 streams delivering a max throughput of 300Mbps [they call it 150 + 150]

Last point that You should be aware of:
To exploit the 4 streams You must have a Network interface that also has the ability to receive/transmit in 4 streams -- I suspect that Netgear will release some new NIC's soon that will have that ability. So, your current NIC in you laptop or Deskptop will not be able to exploite the 600Mbps throughput -- what will happen is that the trougput will fall back to whatever your network adapter is capable off.

For people who purchased the N300 WNDR3700 product a firmware upgrade will NOT update the N300 WNDR3700 product to be the New N600 WNDR3700 product.
